Desktop Issues

Greetings

I have a palm 680. Running Windows Vista on PC. No problems installing. Now a few months down the track the icons on Desktop vanish leaving install tool and Media only. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling - had to use downloaded version as CD now lost. Install tool worked fine but still only got icons for Install and Media.

What does this mean?????????????

Regards

I use Vista, but haven't had this issue. Perhaps it is another Vista quirk. Hope I don't get it. Anyway, have you looked through your files to make sure the desktop isn't still in there somewhere. I believe the actual icon is just a shortcut. So, if you can find the file, you can always make a shortcut.

The issue is new on me as well, and I also run Vista. I agree with Stuart. Try looking in your program list for the app, it couldn't have gone too far.

The Answer

Thanks for your replies.

The answer to the riddle could not be simpler. While I slept Vistor reared up and strangled the desktop and decided it was a security threat and blocked most of it.

I right clicked the desktop icon and went into privleges and chose to run it as the administrator. Vista still demands to know whether I want to run the file each time I use it but atleast I can open it completely.

God knows why I didn't buy a MAC...

THanks again

Glad you got it working. As for Vista, from what I read, even Microsoft has decided to abandon it and is rushing the next OS to market. Unfortunately for us Vista owners, it probably means we have to shell out funds for an upgrade.

Wow...as unfortunate as that is it actually made me laugh out loud. Not at you of course, but at the whole thing. *sigh*.....Vista......*sigh*
