Treo 680 power on problem

My wife and I both have Refurbished Treo 680 phones and we are both using extended life batteries. Both our phones are experiencing a common problem in that they continually throughout the day power on and stay on for whatever duration the automatic power off feature is set for. Some days it happens more frequently than others. Somedays its so bad that it drains the battery in 7-8 hours. Has anyone experienced this problem and figured out a fix?

Are these AT&T branded 680's or unlocked ones?

They are AT&T branded phones.

Power On, you mean the screen comes on? Do you have your phone to check e-mails? What other programs do you have that need/want to connect to the network for updates.

EX.

Versamail-Can be set to retrieve e-mails at a certain interval.
Weather App- They can be set to retrieve updates at an interval
ETC, ETC.....

Do you have any applications that do that?

We have no programs to get Emails automatically or other automatic updaes. When it occurs it lights up the screen and the keyboard. Doesn't seem to matter if it was last turned off from the phone screen or the Palm applications screen. It does seem to stop for awhile if when it turns on you switch from the applications screen to the phone screen or vice versa depending on which screen was up when it was powered off.

There was an issue like that posted on here in the past. I can't find it right now, but I will keep looking.

Okay, 1st, have you tried a soft reset. There could be some program that is trying to connect that you don't know about. If that doesn't work I would do a hard resert. Have you backed up the information on your phone? If not do so. Next, I would do the hard reset.

Have done soft and hard resets. Palm had me also create a new back-up folder, but none of this solved the problem. Palm said they had no knowledge of the problem, but assured me that replacing the back-up folder would solve the problem. It didn't

You may need a new phone. I know you didn't want to hear that, but that is what it sounds like. It may be that the phone if....phunky.

Did it continue after the hard reset, but before syncing your content back?

Well given you've reset, then I'd purge all third party apps. I had an arcade game once that kept playing after I left the game. Sounds like somthing's running in the background. Also check your Phone Info - should see Treo680-1.09-ATT. If not definitely update your phones - see Palm site.

If the issue is resolved with third party apps removed, that add them back one at time and test for a day. If the problem reappears, that app is not compatible with the OS and need updated or removed/abandoned.
