Dead keys r, f, c on Treo 680 - Treo Forum

Dear All,
Dead keys r, f, c on Treo 680
This problem seemed to suddenly arise. No known trauma. It seems ominous from reading other non-680 postings. The space bar was also affected. They all line up vertically: sounds hardware to me, but I'm no tech. With a firm and prolonged push down on the space bar, things corrected. But without some rhyme or reason, I'm troubled.
Anyone else afflicted?

it's a matrix keyboard so that could be a failure of the vertical matrix that goes to those keys. Or could have been a stuck key.

GAH your in aulstrialia or else i would take mine apart and yours and see whats wrong

If it's a busted matrix then you probably won't see any sign of the failure.

If you got it working after it was broken my guess would be something has made it's way down to the circuit board. (Soda, Water, etc) and is shorting out the vertical portion of the matrix. You somehow cleared the contamination by messing with the spacebar key for now but my guess is that it'll reappear as the corrosion builds up.

If you're feeling handy, and your Treo is out of warranty, a new keyboard PCB is available here.

Of course if the warranty is still good, you can get it repaired for free.
