Treo 680 problem after ROM update - Treo Forum

Hi there,

I bought a treo 680 unlocked on ebay when I was in US recently. It was originally under cingular. I was able to use it under T mobile for about three weeks before I came back to Malaysia a few days ago.

In Malaysia, I use a local carrier celcom (celcom.com.my) on that treo quite successfully. Until today that is.

I installed an update available on palm website http://palmone.r3h.net/downloads.pal...topUpdater.zip and after the installation completed, my phone can't be used anymore. It keeps rebooting when it reaches the SIM PIN stage.

I believe what happen is that the phone ROM is now locked by to cingular/ATT and hence, won't work in Malaysia when it could not find an ATT sim card.

I would like to know if your unlock service would be able to solve this problem.

Well the first thing look at is whether the ROM update worked, check to see if the Phone Info shows software 1.09 ATT. If so then it's locked to ATT/Cingular, therefore you'll need to unlock the phone again. The updater is ONLY for ATT/Cingular locked phones so your error was to apply the update to an unlocked phone. Try Mobile2Mobile.com for unlock software, but explain your rebooting issue before ordering.

I believe that is incorrect.

If the treo is a Cingular treo which is then unlocked, it should work with the Cingular/ATT updater. The way I see it, unlocking doesn't change anything (much) in the phone except allowing the use of other carriers SIM cards.

Also, I believe that if you do a hard-reset, the software will revert back to 1.03. So I'd would try that if I were you. The phone shoud remain unlocked.

Once a ROM update is done, a hard reset will *NOT* revert the ROM back to 1.03.

Well that's good news to me, because that means I can try doing a hard-reset to troubleshoot my incoming call freeze problem without having to re-do the ROM update.

Not good news to the OP, unfortunately...

it was fast for a day but its now back to sluggish

it never froze on an incomming call

but its doign good this week

but i would have to take the battery out and reset teh phone once a day last month.
it would freeze just trying to switch from app to app
