Unhappy Forgot my Treo was on silent - Alarm Clock woes

So I've had a Treo 680 for a few weeks now, and I like nearly everything about it. But the one problem I'm having is with the alarm clock. My old cheapo moto flip phone would have the alarm go off loud and clear no matter what the sound setting was on my phone. But on the treo, I've forgotten on more than one occasion the phone was set to silent when I set the alarm and went to bed. This has caused me to be late to class several times now, and I really need a fix for this.

Is there any program out there that will fix this? Like an improved alarm clock (compared to the world clock that comes with the treo) that overrides the silent switch on the phone and makes the alarm go off anyways? Or a program that makes it blatantly obvious that the phone is in silent mode so that there is no possible way I can set the alarm and not notice the phone is set to silent? Or an improved alarm clock that pops up a reminder when I set the alarm that the phone is in silent mode?

Does a program like any of these exist? I thought I would just eventually grow used to making sure the phone wasn't in silent mode when I went to bed, but after several weeks I've given up hope and I need a fix for this. Thanks so much for any advice you can give!

I haven't heard of any programs that will allow you to do this. I had the exact same problem. My fix was doing the same thing your doing. I just kept at it until it stuck. Now I check my phone before I go to bed (sometimes as many as 3 times......I forget I've already done it).

Freeware Palm: Watchmaker v1.5.2

I use this clock on my TREO. I download midi tones for it on treobits.com Access from your phone to load the tones directly. But, the vibrate switch is the "master" switch. If it is on vibrate, nutting you can do.

Like forgot said, get used to checking it. I know I do at least twice.

Top 10 Reasons Not to Use a Cell Phone as an Alarm Clock

Luckily you did not fall into this list.

Top 10 Reasons Not to Use a Cell Phone as an Alarm Clock

1. You won’t get a “wrong number” call on your alarm clock in midnight.
2. Alarm clock is cheap, and you can afford throwing it against the wall instead of firing the boss.
3. Your parents will buy you an alarm clock when they had enough to get you out of bed, but not a cell phone.
4. Alarm clock has no radiation to your brain but scientists are not certain about cell phone.
5. Alarm clock does not require monthly fees but cell phone costs you a fortune each month.
6. Alarm clock is bigger with easy reading numbers and cell phone is just too tiny.
7. Alarm clock is reliable without the rechargeable battery which you may forget to recharge.
8. Alarm clock is your truthful bedside companion, but cell phone may be in another room, or in the car, or nowhere.
9. Alarm clock has easy reach snooze button but cell phone will challenge you more when you are sleepy.
10. No wonder cell phone topped alarm clock as the most hated invention ever in America in a 2005 survey.

The silent switch is a hardware cutoff for the speaker so there is no way to bypass it using software. LIke most here have said....if you're deadset on using the cell phone as an alarm clock then you're going to have to get in the habit of either checking to ensure it's not on silent or never putting it there in the first place.

Hi,

Try the following program, it should help your problem. This freeware prog activitates the alert icon (the little bell) as long as you have the hardware button set to off. It should help provide a reminder of the status. RingerSwitch Basic - PalmGear.com: Download Palm Software for your Treo 650/600, Tungsten, LifeDrive or other Palm OS Device

Yes, THERE IS a program created specifically to address this issue.
It doesn't override the silent setting, but it's supposed to be like a
reminder that is nearly impossible to overlook.

I forgot what it's called, but I just read about it a few days ago.
I'll post here again if I find it.

But it doesn't solve the issue if he wants to use it as an alarm. I know I have forgotten that I left the phone on vibrate and didn't hear the vibration of my phone. I overslept.

Well no, like that guy said, it's a hardware switch, so no software can make the alarm go off if you put it on silent. But that software will make you notice when the phone is on silent.
