Question New Treo owner, cingular video question

Hello, this forum seems to be very informative and actually convinced me to go ahead and purchase my Treo 680 last night from Cingular/AT&T. It is my first smartphone, having used Razrs, flips, and such for the past 8 years. I have to wait till next week to receive it, but after playing with one in the store I cant wait!!

So onto my question: Can the Treo 680 play the cingular/att music/videos? My boss has a Blackjack and was showing me some tv clips and stuff that I didn't think much about, but then I realized internet via Cingular is only going to cost me $14.99 a month since it can replace my text plan. So I know I can access the net with that service, but can I take full advantage like the Blackjack can? I realize the 680 isn't 3G, so the speed will be slower.

Forgive me for not being completely up on the technology, this is my first experience with any sort of mobile internet.

Thanks in advance for any information,
Sheridan

Hey Sheridan, welcome to Treonauts!

You say your new data plan will replace your text plan? Why is that? Is it a combo plan? If not, you'll be missing out on texting all together.

To answer your question about the Cingular Video, that is an application that is included on various devices, but not the Treo. Weird, I know. As far as I know there is no way to access these videos, but there are plenty of other applications that will allow you to watch videos on your Treo. Do a search and you should come up with plenty.

That kinda sucks..but I'm not sure I'd use it anyways. By watching other vids, could a person go to youtube on their phone browser, or do you mean you can download them a different way and watch them?

As for the plan right now I'm paying $9.99 for unlimited M2M text with 200 premium text included for texting to non cingular customers or pic/vid text. For $24.99 I can get unlimited internet access, cingular vid, unlimited M2M text and the 200 premium. So its only $14.99 more for all the internet I can use...much better than the $39.99 plan they tried to talk me into at their store

Agreed! YouTube has a mobile site (http://m.youtube.com) and your phone will recognize them, but it streams so slow you can't play them. Or at least I can't....

I've found that the only way for me to watch most all of the video's on youtube is to let it start....pause..wait several minutes and then hit play. Sometimes that allows the video to get downloaded enough to make it through. My internet is pretty fast but it still sucks that I can't really watch many video's.

I usually can't even get them to load enough to be able to pause...never gets passed the buffering stage.
