Since the update, I am having problems with it freezing, not ringing all the time (which I am finding out could be the Ringo software), and I can't sync. Should I try a new SIM card 1st?

here's a silly question, mine is a cigular phone from the united states, but im in canada, its been unlocked so i can use it with rogers, i still have all the cingular icons on the phone, when it says hello/goodbye its cingular does this mean i should install hte update because it uses the cigular rom or because its been unlocked do i not need to?

Depending on how long you've had yours, check the version to see if its already been done. Otherwise its probably a good idea to do so. The update addresses many things software related that don't have anything to do with the carrier (camera, battery, etc.). It should remain unlocked even if you do the update, but to be on the safe side have your unlock code on hand.

Ah, wait a minute.. If your 680 is "unlocked" then what does the ROM version display in Phone Info? If it says Treo680-1.09-ATT then the update is already applied, but IF it say 1.03-CNG then the update hasn't been installed. However, since the 680 is Unlocked it may not permit the installation of the Cingular/ATT ROM updater. I'd be VERY careful, I've seen forum posts where 680's got really screwed up with this procedure on unlocked phone. Hasn't Palm put out a non-ATT updater?

From what I understand, those problems were with unlocked phones purchased directly from Palm. If the phone was on originally on the Cingular network first (Cingular branded) then the update should still be applied. I unlocked my phone before I applied the update, and it worked fine.

I've downloaded, and then installed and deleted and reinstalled the program update a few times and I still get "TREO680-1.03-CNG" under "Phone Info" under "Options" which is suppose to change to "TREO680-1.09-ATT". This is not occurring. I've followed the instructions carefully, but when I'm prompted on the screen to follow the instructions on my smartphone, I'm never actually prompted on my smartphone to follow such instructions. After a while the update continues on its own until it finishes. My phone had already changed to the AT&T logo about 2 weeks ago, but I continued to get weird text and symbols in the phone directory, freezes, restarts, etc. over the last 2-3 weeks. I'm wondering if anyone could help. Why isn't my phone accepting the new program update?

hello all, i just purchased a 680 and i read that there was an update. i previously had a 650, but the only problem that i had with it was that i didn't know how to unleash the treo's full potential (sd cards, various programs, etc..) i also didn't know if other programs would work because i use an apple and it seems as though many people use PC. i think that the main reason as to why i never was able to fully utilize this device was not knowing how to really use the device and how to tackle challenges.

back to the point, Palm - Support - Software Update for Palm Treo 680 Smartphone for AT&T

do i absolutely need a card reader to install this update or is there a method without using a card reader?

I am looking to buy a treo 680. I heard a few people say that the att logo treo was more up to date than the cingular one. First of all, is this a true statement? Second of all, would this update everyone is talking about, update the cingular branded phone to be just like the att one? Thanks
