Undeletable email on my 680 (Versamail)?

I use the included Versamail application to check email in my IMAP account. Most of the spam gets picked up by other machines checking the same account, but occasionally some gets through to my 680. I've noticed that some of this stuff (with content entirely in special characters) sticks in the mail application: when I try to delete it (either individually or by deleting everything) it just causes a crash-and-reboot of the Treo, and the junk is still there. This is accumulating, and coming to crowd out the real mail.

Does anyone have an idea about how I can delete this stuff? Of course, it would be even more interesting to know what's going on, but I'm mostly just interested in getting rid of it.

How are you trying to delete it? Are you opening it, then pressing delete? If so, try marking the checkbox beside the email in the main view, then selecting delete from the drop-down menu.

Tried that (checking the box). It makes no difference: any way I try to delete these messages just causes a reboot.

Hmmm..weird. Have you tried deleting, and re-creating the account in Versamail?

That might work. But it seems like a huge amount of trouble to go to, since I will have to do that every time I get a piece of undeletable spam. I'm looking for some way to just clear the mailbox on the Treo.....

I totally understand. I think the problem lies with the spam being HTML heavy, or a bad attachment, and its somehow corrupting a versamail database. You could try using FileZ to remove the message and attachment databases from the internal memory. They would be listed under MultiMail Messages, and MultiMail Attachments.

Great. That was what I needed (I use "SynchBuddy" to mount the Treo's memory as a disk on my Mac, and I found MultiMail Messages under "Builtins" ). Once I deleted that file on the Treo, the mail database for the account was reset and the spam has now gone away.
