Incoming Calls Muted from Verizon

Has anyone else had this problem? My girlfriend has a Verizon cellphone and when she calls me I can't hear a word she's saying and all she hears on her end is herself. While this may be indicative of our relationship at times it is quite annoying for my cellphone to be used strictly as a pager because of this--when I call her back the call is fine.
Is this a hardware or SIM card issue. My SIM card is 7 months old. I have called my phone from land lines, other Cingular phones, and a T-Mobile phone and they all go thru on the first call. I'm wondering whether I should go back to the Cingular store for an exchange.
Any help would be appreciated.

Resetting the phone both soft and warm didn't fix the problem. It turned out that I was missing more calls that I originally thought. My parents called me several times from payphones in Detroit and their first call to me never went thru without them hearing themselves and me hearing a garbled voice. The second time they'd call it would go thru just fine. So it wasn't just certain numbers that had this problem with my phone.
I called up customer service and they said it was the first time they had ever heard of this problem. Tech support reset my registration and I soft reset my phone. After this my girlfriend called my phone to test and the call went thru! I was happy and thanked tech support. However an hour later I got a call from my office and when I picked up I heard a garbled voice. Much to my dismay the problem wasn't fixed.
Since my 680 was only 4 days old I took it back to the corporate Cingular store where I bought it and got an exchange unit. This replacement phone has been working just fine and now I fully believe that this is the best phone I've ever owned.

Tech support rules out the SIM card since it is only 8 months old. They think its a problem with the network switch since its only occurring with incoming calls. Its not a tower issue because this problem occurs more than 5 miles away from each instance. They're going to call me back by this Friday to let me know if they fixed it.

and if you can't understand them then we'll count that as a no.

Try getting them to give you a new SIM anyway. It doesn't hurt to try, even if it does turn out to be a network issue.

My phone is fixed! I received calls just fine from my girlfriend all of last night and had no issues with ppl calling me all day yesterday. Woohoo!

Tech support called me this morning to ask me more questions about my issue. When I told them that somebody must have fixed it between yesterday and today they didn't take credit for fixing it. I don't know if I should be happy about that or not... Oh well as long as it works, right?
