Palm Treo and Cingular Data plan rates - Treo Forum

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have seen much on here about the $39.99 charge from Cingular for unlimited data. Some say you can change your phone to a regular phone through the Cingular website and then add the $19.99 MediaMax 200 plan and still use the Treo. If I do this do I loose being able to sync to my corporate mailbox using Exchange Activesync and Versamail? Will I loose the ability to use my Mergic PPTP VPN with Wifile to copy files to and from my server? On these forums I have seen conflicting information. Before I attempt this change I need to know what to expect. I don’t mind loosing the VPN as much as the corporate email sync. I will just keep paying if I loose the email. I rarely use the browser for Internet.

Why don't you just switch it and try. I guarantee that Cingular will ALWAYS let you switch back to the more expensive data plan anytime you want.

Demand for Cingular to give you the unlimited smartphone plan for 19.99, with this you have xpress mail that enables you to check your corporate email box. I have this because I threated to leave cingular to sprint and they wanted to keep me because I told them that I would make up the disconnect fee in no time with the money saved being on the sprint plan.

Well, I did it, I changed two unlimited data plans with text messaging (total$100/month), to two "MediaMax 200" plans for 19.99 each. I just called up customer service and asked the rep to remove plans I did not want and add the MediaMax 200. I did this first for my number and after not noticing any problems, a week later I called back and did the same for my boss. So this is some real savings on our bill. Thanks for the push.
