| A Few Questions.... ![]() | On Third 680 In Less Than 1 Month! I've been plagued with 680 performances issues (Cingular, GSM) Treo 680 #1 (Jan 20, 2007) When the salesperson was demo-ing the device upon taking it out of the box, the 680 would not power up. He suggested that the battery might have lost charge while sitting on the shelf. We took his word for it and took the 680 home to charge. After charging it powered up correctly and I assumed he was right... until a couple of days later when I simply could not get the device to power up - even after fully charging. After fiddling with random buttons the device would magically come to life. What the...? After 3 dead periods I took it back for exchange. Treo 680 #2 (Jan 28, 2007) The new device doesn't show any of the power issues that #1 did. However, this one loses network access with alarming frequency - I'm in San Francisco. At times I'd be without service for 4+ hours. Imagine if I REALLY needed the device in an emergency and... The mind reels. I searched the web and found that I'm not the only 680 owner who's experienced this. After 2 dead network periods I took it back for exchange - only to be met by suspicious glares from the people behind the counter. Treo 680 #3 (Feb 19, 2007) I just got this one yesterday and have yet to experience any of the problems I suffered with the first two. Here's hoping that the 'third time is the charm'. What has happened to Palm's Quality? |

![]() | I had an experience today, that kind of freaked me out. I pulled the phone out of my pocket...and could not get it to "wake up". I did a soft reset, and it powered up briefly...then went to dark-screen again. I again did a battery in and out reset...and this time it went through the whole reset routine and has been OK since. But...are these kind of "miscues" common on Palm phones? This is my first Treo...and the last thing I want is to be hooked to a phone that is consistantly buggy. Is this a common deal with the 680? |

![]() | I had my 600 for about 3 or so years. When I first got the thing it was buggy. And the same goes for the 680 I now have. The biggest issue being the lost network/gibberish issue spoken about on here in a different post. (and still on going) The worst thing is that they can test these things in a thousand lab enviroments and still never completely cover every possible issue that may occur. The fact remains that if you get a new-release Treo, you're going to have issues for at least a few months. Some may be a bummer and others just a minor annoyance. As for the lost radio/network/Gibberish craziness, supposedly there is a ROM update to be released at some yet-to-be-determined date. The WORST thing about the Treo line is that they have to make underlying programing that can interact with multiple networks (Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, Rogers, ETC...) and invariably you're going to hit snags with it. And not to mention everyone involved likes to cast blame around the table....palm blames the phone co, phone co blames palm....and round and round we go. It'll all get ironed out...and until then....I'll live with the issues like a faithful treonaut |

![]() | I know when I was on Cingular and getting my 8th treo 650 it certainly felt that way. To the OP.. hang in there. You'll get one thats good. And when you do you'll be happy with it. I think I am VERY lucky. I bought a refurb on ebay and it's nary given me a problem. Good luck, and remember... we can ALL sympathize with you. We've been there. |

![]() | hang in there I also recently got a refurb treo 680 from friends, and I have to say the network blackout periods even occur here in Australia in the middle of the city at Melbourne! And since I had the pin code request on (as a basic security measure at its minimum), every time the phone loses connection, and regains it, it will ask me to put in the pin code again. It does gets annoying if you have to do this constantly... To get around this, I have put the pin code request to OFF for now. I have now made a habit of mine to check the phone's network connection every now and then... I have been putting the phone on silence a lot, as I am in meetings a LOT, maybe I will put the alert sound back on at a low volume, just so that I know when my phone has lost network connection. anyways, to all fellow treonauts out there, I will continue to share whatever workarounds and whatnot I learnt along the way and help each other out! ~zonman |
