![]() | I recently upgraded to a 680 from a 600. I noticed right away that it took about 4-6 seconds to find a number in the phone app. I have over 2000 contacts but it worked instantly on my 600 and it works instantly in the SMS app (on the 680). I spoke to Palm CS 4 times and they have agreed to refund me for the first phone. I got another one and same problem. I have done hard resets, no 3rd party apps. I even imported my Mom's contacts after a hard reset and it still crawls. Should I send the second phone back also? Any ideas? |

![]() | I have returned both of these phones because I was not able to solve the problems. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm using my 600 again and it is lightning fast on the searches but I do miss all those nice new features of the 680. |

![]() | I read somewhere that if you uncheck the display sim address book feature that it speeds up the contact search. I don't have that many contacts, so I can't say for sure. |

![]() | I also recently upgraded from the Treo 600 to the 680 and have experienced this same problem. (I have a lot of contacts.) Have observed that contacts with last names late in the alphabet are slower to be found than those at the beginning. Unchecking the display sim address does not seem to help. This is the single step backwards in making the upgrade but it's a biggie for me. I wish my 600 still worked; I'd like to have it back. Maybe there's a third party app that works better but I'm concerned that an application so central to the function of a PDA got worse in a later release. My next upgrade will likely be to a different platform if I can't get this working better. |

| Regular Contributer ![]() | since the contact database was rewritten to be integrated into the phone app rather than remain as seperate, one can hope/assume that it will require some tweaking by palm and that it will happen when they do the upgrades(eventual). I'm sure there are other 3rd party apps that might accomplish this more quickly for you. |

![]() | I am evaluating the third party offering TAKEphONE (ver 7.00) which overcomes this problem and gives you some other nice features as well. To get the speedy search check "Turbo" in Options/Preferences/Find. Where you used to type RSNYD to find Ralph Snyder in the Treo 600, in TAKEphONE you type "SNYD RA", matching last name and first name in that order. Close enough for me. 30 day evaluation period followed by $19.95 to the Treonauts, Palmgear, Palm Store, Access or developer's website which is ShSh Software. I'll probably purchase it for this feature alone though it seems a shame that I have to do it to gain a speedy search. Palm/Access ought to have done this for us. But I've gone on enough 'bout that in an earlier post. |

![]() | Just found this thread, indeedy, this is one of my pet peeves with the Treo 680... SLOW FIND FUNCTION. I've just tried a search for "John" on my 680 and on my T3 (similar contact content, approx 2000 entries), and the results are: Treo 680 approx. 20 seconds (for "contact" part of "Find") Palm T3 approx. 3 seconds (for "contact" part of "Find"). Is it just the processor? Treo 680 (312Mhz) Palm T3 (400Mhz) I suspect that the "Find" algorithm is written differently, or the data is stored more inefficiently on the Treo. Perhaps there's a "storage-tidy-up" function that I can download... all suggestions gratefully accepted. |
