| A Few Questions.... ![]() | My crimson 680 won't get here till Tuesday, bu I thought I'd ask some questions while I'm waiting: 1. I'd like to use my Treo to check my personal email, which is a Gmail account. Will I have to log on to gmail and check it manually, or can I set it up to instantly alert me automatically when I get a message? (in the same way that my husband's BlackBerry alerts him when he gets a work email) Also, can I set it up to automatically download and alert me when email arrives at my work address as well, or do I have to choose between either having it retrieve mail from the work server OR the gmail server? Basically, I'd like to have the best of both worlds, but if it's a choice between receiving work or personal email instantly, I'll take the Gmail any day! 2. This is my first smartphone but I do have a Palm Tungsten PDA. I'll need to transfer all my addresses from the Tungsten to the Treo. Can someone tell me the steps to do this? I imagine I just do a hot sync, but I want to be sure because I'd hate to lose all my addresses. Thanks for your help. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Glad your excited about your 680! 1) Email is one of the great things about a Treo! First things first, set your Gmail account to enable POP3 forwarding. This is vital to allowing your Treo to get your email! Next, you can use the Versamail email client that comes with your 680 to access your email and download it straight to your phone. The catch is its not instant (like your husbands blackberry), although you can set it to go out and fetch your email as often as every 5 minutes. 2) Just like you said, Hotsync! Make sure you sync your Tungsten before hand, then install the new desktop software that comes with your 680. Once its installed, hotsync your new 680 and choose your previous device's ID. Your info from your Tungsten should now sync to your new 680! If you have any more questions please let us know! We're happy to help, and glad your part of the community!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Both! You can set up seperate accounts if you like to keep things in their own place, or you can set one to autoforward to the other, and just get your mail from one central account.

You can also set a schedule so that it grabs email only on certain days of the week. Works well. I have also been using SSL for my pop and SMTP and it works well, it is a little slower, but works well. Jeff | |
