Update * Treo 680 Freezing during call.

I am on my second Treo 680 and have the same problem with both. The phone will freeze up during a call & I have to do a soft reset to get it working again.

Anyhow, after speaking once again with Customer Service I was told to go to my nearest Cingular store and get a new SIM card and see if this solves the problem.

The girl at store told me she would guarantee that the SIM was not the problem. She stated that every 680 they had sold came back. She said it must be a software, or more likely a firmware problem.

They mention nothing about the problem being so widespread at Cingular CS.

I have a new unlocked treo 680 in Denmark working on TDC network, freezing 1 of 10 incoming calls
i'm trying to find a system in it (when i am having alarms waiting or when it has to switch from app.panel to phone panel when incoming calls appear, but i can not yet see why it is freezing)
it is very frustrating. maybe i will go back to my old Sony Ericsson and my Tungsten T.

Exclamation 1 out of 10 calls hangs up my phone too...

Yea, i too have the same problem...1 out of 10 calls would hang... I dont think it related to SIM card... but I would like to see some more feedback on that.... if at all it helps...

on another issue, I would also like someone to check if they can get an SMS via any website.. I dont get mine from my bank website.. somehow this phone is driving me crazy! i was a lot happier with my 650.

I just had my Rogers Treo 680 replaced as well as a brand new SIM card. I haven't had enough calls to say whether or not it's helped, but I'll post back with anything I can.

Yikes. I just ordered a 680 through Rogers' as well. Curious, did you bypass your 30 day/30 talk-time min return policy? If so, and knowing what you know now, would you return the unit?

I bought mine from Rogers, January 4th... The only calls that froze was caused by the soft "dialbyphotos"! I had problems too with Butler. Since I've deleted these, I don't have any problems...

treo freezing

I too am on my second 680 in three weeks. The first one would freeze repeatedly and have to be soft reset an average of 10 times daily. Cingular replaced it immediately as I purchased it at a Cingular retail store. The second one I have now freaks out when I plug a headset into the jack. The phone ear speaker, speakerphone, and headset all stop working. And in the upper left corner where it says "cingular" it changes to some language that I cannot decipher, and of course freezes up. Curiously, at Cingular they lie and say that they never get any back as defective. My only recourse with this second one is to mail it away for warranty.

FYI - I posted this on another thread and thought it was approperate here.

Hi,
I too was a very happy 650 owner that switched to a 680 for all the above listed reasons. Skip to today, I have gone thru 3 treo 680's in 3 months - dropped calls, straight to voice mail, not able to call out-I did not have very good luck using it as a phone. On the advice of my Cingular rep (who told me that he had seen "a few" 680's with the same problem, I called Cingular and bless them they upgraded me to a brand new 750 at no extra charge. Apparently it helped to have my phone have problems while I was standing in the store.
Before anyone gets upset, I treated my 680's with care, no third party software, new sim etc, . These are not problems I had with the trusty 650 - unfortunatly I gave that phone to a friend overseas when I got the 680. Kinda of hard to ask for it back!
The only differance I may of had from other 680 owners was that my 680's were unlocked so I could use them in Southern Africa. The unlocking was done by Cingular and not a third party. It is the only thing we could think of that might had caused my issues...
So far the 750 has been great, although a bit weird using windows...

If you read around you'll notice this freezing problem does not seem to affect the unlocked PALM 680's. Perhaps it's a problem with the carrier modified firmware.
