Internet radio disables phone calls - Treo Forum

I was using the mOcean internet radio features yesterday and was angrily chastised later that my phone never answered for the approximate 1 hour of radio use. Is this a serious limitation to using internet radio on the 680 or are there work-arounds to this.

For some reason I thought that wasn't a problem with GSM and GPRS/EDGE data. It is certainly a problem for CDMA and 1xRTT data (Treo 600 and 650), but no longer a problem with EV-DO data (Treo 700p).

There wasn't a workaround with CDMA and 1xRTT data. As long as data was actively being sent/received, then calls wouldn't come through.

The 680 can only handle one thing at a time. Either data or phone. It's a limitation of the palm operating system. The windows version of the treo can do both at once.

Usually if your just surfing the net, voicemail notices can get through in the gaps but with continuous feeds like internet radio, there is no gap.

Its not a limitation of the operating system, but rather the network. EV-DO, EDGE, ect network phones can't handle traffic from both voice and data at the same time. 3G enabled phones can. Most people don't notice this as the data comes in in a broken, not continuous stream. I'd venture to say we can look forward to some 3G incarnations of our beloved Treo within the next year.

Well as the 700P runs PalmOS as well I think you can rule out it being an OS limitation

Unlikely as it won't be able to detect the phone call coming in
