Need help with Java Virtual Machine

Hi everyone. I received my first Treo (680 unlocked) for Christmas. I have really learned a lot about it from this forum. Thank you all very much!
I had a phone plan with Cingular and pulled the sim card from my phone and plugged it into the Treo, works great. I just signed up for a data plan and decided to start with the 5MB package for $10.00/month. I am trying to get set up to use my gmail account on my smartphone and that's where I am having trouble. When I go to Gmail on my Treo I receive a message saying that I don't have a java vm installed. When I go to my Blazer application, go to preferences then the "general" tab I have the option of checking "Disable Javascript". Doesn't that indicate that I do have the jvm installed on my device?
I read some earlier posts that directed me to the palm web site to the WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment Download. I wasn't sure if that was compatible with my 680.
I would appreciate any help I can get.

I followed these instructions and it worked. They didn't list the 680 as a device but seemed to work ok from what I remember. Install was a little strange with all the steps but did work.

Thanks MCEB for your reply. I made it through the first steps and am stuck at the next.
When I go to the IBM Java VM program on my Treo I get the prompt to install a URL for a midlet. Am I at the correct place? I can't find anything else to do under Preferences.

The Gmail for mobile application has additional configurations through the JVM. From IBM Java VM, please adjust the following:

* Select Gmail -1.0.0. > Menu > Permissions.
* Select HTTPS, please make sure Once when the application runs (session) is selected.
* Select HTTP, please make sure Once when the application runs (session) is selected.
