USB Sync Problem

Good morning,

We have a Treo 680 that we cannot sync via USB, either with the cradle or the cable. When we initiate the sync, the computer makes the "device recognized" noise, but that's all that happens - the Hotsync dialog never pops up. We have "local USB" selected for the sync method on the computer, and "cradle/cable" selected on the Palm. We have done a soft reset and reinstalled the PC software (Windows XP) but to no avail. Interestingly, we are able to sync successfully via Bluetooth, although it does not work reliably. We've completed the suggestions on Palm's support pages. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

When you plug in the USB cable does the treo start charging?

If not perhaps it's a bad usb cable or a bad usb connector, either on the PC or the cable. Try another usb connection.

Could it also be your PC's anti-virus/firewall blocking communication with the hotsynch application. Make sure it's unblocked by the firewall software.

Thanks for your response. We've tried different USB ports with the same results, and the same cable works successfully on a different computer. I'll try disabling the firewall, but I was under the impression that the firewall only blocked network traffic? I'll try turning off antivirus too.

Thanks,
Ben

I had the same problem. I rebooted my computer and did a soft reset of my 680. I don't know which of those actions solved my sync problem, but I've not had any trouble since then. That was about a week ago. Good Luck!

Is your computer loading the Hotsync software properly? Might want to check. Even if it's not running right (or at all) you'll still here the "device recognized" sound in Windows. If all else fails, you could uninstall and reinstall the Hotsync software (or the whole Palm desktop).

I ran into the same problem - turns out that the HotSync Manager was not started on my computer - notice the omission of the HotSync icon in the system tray.

Once I manually started the HotSync Manager, my Treo did synchronize just fine.

FYI - the Treo support staff told me that I needed to contact MicroSoft for a driver update!
