Treo 680 setting off store security alarms?

Has anyone else had this issue? Whenever I go into several major retailer in my area I set off the security scanners at the entrance and exit doors (these are the devices that scan for the little security devices inside packages that were not deactiviated at the check-out register).

I am very certain that it is being caused by the Treo 680 phone. In two stores I had a 'pleasant' discussion with their security manage and walked through the security scanner with and without the phone. With the phone the alarm is set off, without the phone the alarm does not go off. This has happened at Home Depot, Meijer, JC Penny, actually it seems to happening at most of the major stores.

Does anyone know what signal or frequency the Treo is putting out to cause this? Or more importantly, how to stop it???

Thanks!

That's an odd one! I shop all the time and have never had that happen.

Yes!!!

The same thing is happening to me. I haven't been scientific about it, but the Treo is definitely the cause. Ironically, it seems to more commonly go off in clothing stores rather than electronics stores. It always goes off at Home Depot and Bed Bath & Beyond as well.

any chance you have some kind of RFID tag stuck in your treo somewhere? Like under the battery or the battery cover?

Same thing happened to me last week! My friend and I were shopping and every time we walked into a store the alarm went off! And then again when we were leaving (with bags in our hands) - now it makes sense.

that's awesome. i stuck a hot rfid tag in a guy's cowboys jacket one time. he set off alarms for a month and finally he just quit wearing it. wonder if it's still setting alarms off...
