Palm Treo 680 battery instructions

I do apologize for creating a separate thread, as I know there already are many discussing the battery issue, but I found these instructions from Palm Technical Support so interesting I though they might deserve more visibility. Basically, they are recommending the battery reset mentioned by many.

Quote:
If you encounter a poor battery life on your Treo 680 and you have to recharge very often even if not using the phone function, the issue might have been caused by an incorrect first charging of the device. Please follow the steps below to solve the issue:

1. Connect your Treo to the charger.

2. Remove the battery from the Treo and wait for at least one minute.

3. Remove the SIM card from the device and wait for another minute.

4. Put the SIM card AND battery back into the device and charge the Treo for at least 4 - 6 hours. Do NOT press any key after reinserting the battery. Do NOT switch your TREO On or Off either, it will do so automatically after a short time. Do NOT enter the SIM card PIN if prompted to do so, just wait!

After this procedure, that can be performed and repeated any time, you will now dispose of the full charging capacity and the display of the remaining battery power works correctly.
So all in all I advise you to repeat this procedure as many times as you can.

I have done the process as illustrated above. However my keyboard is now flashing. Is this normal?

Doesn't the Li-Ion Battery have the charging circuits built in? Would be be best doing this kind of Maximal charge externally?

Very soon I will receive my Treo 680 (copper). As always I am reading all articles and threads related to certain issues, such as first sync (I have a Palm E) and of course Battery life.

Following closely instructions in original thread, at what moment does the Sim card go back in? I suppose at the end of first 4 hour charging cycle - with hands off!

I have tried this twice. Once for 4 hours and once for 14 hours.

I still have a 10% per hour drain on my Treo. I re-inserted the SIM card this morning after 14 hours without the SIM. This was at 8:15AM. By 10:30AM, I am down to 79%.

More info:

My drain starts out around 10% per hour. My 680 was plugged in from 6pm to 8am with the SIM card removed: 14 hours! I unplugged it at 8:15 AM. By noon, it was 61%. 3 hours have passed and it is now down to 39%. I have not used the Camera application. Bluetooth has been turned off all day. The Network is connected and has been since early this morning. I have had 3 calls, with total talk time of less than 10 minutes.

I have tried soft resetting and warm resetting. I have tried the charge it with the SIM card out. Nothing has improved the discharge. I have let it fully discharge to the point where the phone will not turn on and then re-charged it. Nothing so far has helped.

I finally called in to Palm today

Palm has agreed to a swap, (After 3 phone calls) but I have to send them the phone. They are paying the shipping charges both ways. I wish I had not turned in my TREO650 to offset the cost. I have another, but I need to fix the screen. The 680 won't be shipped back until I have something else to use.

For anyone keeping track:

Firmware: MW01.50
Software: TREO680-1.04-ROW
CC-Cap: 000-000-000
Carrier DB: 355
Hardware: A
