![]() | “If you encounter a poor battery life on your Treo 680 and you have to recharge very often even if not using the Phone function, the issue might have been caused by an incorrect first charging of the device. Please follow the steps below to solve the issue: 1. Connect your Treo to a wall charger. 2. Remove the battery from the Treo and wait for at least one minute. 3. Remove the SIM card from the device and wait for another minute. 4. Put the battery back into the device (without the SIM card) then let your Treo charge for at least 4 to 6 hours and for this duration: Do NOT press any key after reinserting the battery. Do NOT switch your TREO On or Off either, it will do so automatically after a short time. Do NOT enter the SIM card PIN if prompted to do so, just wait! After this procedure, which can be performed and repeated any time, you will now dispose of the full charging capacity and the display of the remaining battery power will work correctly.”

![]() ![]() | In one of the linked articles in a similar thread the process is edited to tell you to leave your SIM card out until after a full charge is reached. The reason for this is because any programs that auto launch on power up count as keystrokes against you which stop this charge technique from working. Without a SIM card in the phone it will not get to a point where the phone can auto launch these programs leaving the phone to just sit and charge. The link to the article is here My understanding is that if it is truly the first charge the phone has with nothing but factory settings on it, you can insert the SIM along with the battery (since there are no apps to auto launch). If you are repeating the process at a later date after adding apps to the phone, you should leave the SIM card out until after the phone has been allowed to charge fully. That being said it doesn't hurt anything to simply leave it out in the event a factory installed app auto launches, so if you want to leave the SIM out until after the charge is complete. The general result to all of this, if done properly most people see results in the first attempt, those who didnt usually got it where they wanted on the second. There are a couple of people who had to try three or four times, but after doing so have a battery that is lasting longer than they would have thought (2 days + without heavy use). In the end if all of this fails, give it one more chance but drain the battery as low as possible (or completely) beforehand. Some of the other threads involving these same matters are : palm-treo-680-battery-instructions-2.html treo-680/8805-proper-first-charge.html treo-680/8610-please-help-my-680-sucks-battery-power.html treo-680/8605-who-you-what-have-you-done-my-treo-680-a.html I do not yet own the 680, but I am going to be getting one shortly, I plan on going through this process the moment it comes out of the box, powering on and if the battery is anything less than 100% doing it again. Additionally, there seems to be a thought that some 3rd party apps may have a hand in battery life... this is not an issue for me as I do not plan to use many of these apps, but it is something to keep in mind and look into. And lastly, I would do some looking into the camera patch everyone mentions as it also seems to be the second biggest troubleshooting solution along with this battery cycling. I just notice his question in doing my own research on the matter in prep for buying my 680 here, hopefully, shortly, and figured it easier since I had all the tabs open. Side note... anyone have tips on making your wife understand the value of 680 so Im not having to choose between the phone and sleeping on the couch for a while? Thanks for the thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Put her picture up as a wallpaper on your phone, use it to text her love notes, use it to find a good place to take her out to eat, etc. Eventually she'll see that the three of you can live in harmony. LOL |

![]() ![]() | Haha, I will have to make note of that. I forwarded her a PDF Palm put out about how to convince your boss the Treo 680 is a worthy investment. If it followed by your suggestion doesn't work, meh, I kinda like the couch anyways. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here is are few reasons I love my 755P: 1) Saves the environement. How? I don't use paper for my appointments. Real time notifications of when and where you need to be. 2) Orginized. That is all I have to say there. 3) E-mail on the go. You need to get a document, or need to get something out to someone. Easy to do, plus you can edit word documents and such. I have done this in the past with housing documents when I was never close to a computer. Did it and I was done. |

![]() ![]() | I finally sold her last night when 3 times in 20 minutes she asked me a question and I consulted my Clie (PDA) to give her the answer. The only catch is that I have to wait for my bonus to actually deposit in the bank which wont be until sometime mid Sept. before actually purchasing the phone. ps. didnt mean to take this thread off topic.
