My Close Call....

So I'm downtown in the Houston Medical Center visiting my wife for lunch. Lunch is over and we're headed back to the hospital when, as we sprint across the rainy street to the doors, I hear a sickening thud and clatter. I stop. I place my hand on my trusty, but very worn out, case and find it....empty. My heart sinks. Just as I'm turning around I see someone bent over picking up a small antenna-less gray object from the street. I mutter a quick thank you and proceed to look the device over for any damage. Screens ok....power works fine....some small scratches on the back...dang. My wife then reminds me I need to get out of the intersection so that the cars, now with a green light, can pass.

All in all I've learned a few things. My 680 got it's first few scratches but I'll survive, that I need a new case, and don't stand in intersections.

Glad the Treo is ok and that you are ok standing in the middle of the intersection - I totally understand! When I dropped my 650 in October and the screen broke, I was so upset, so I'm trying to be super careful with my 680 now.

And my battery seems to be doing much better than the first few weeks, but still only lasts one day (gotta keep checking email and send text messages to everyone!).

Exclamation HELP my screen died after only 1mth of use

Guys: HEEELPPP! good luck to you that even under rain & running your 680 survived! Ours died today while my husband was about to insert it into the belt pouch - he missed, - and it went straight to the floor, screen never came back on. It turned 30 days old yesterday! what a terrible experience! I chose a treo because I have freinds w/ some 650's that have gone to war and they are still alive & kickin'. How come that from a fall from 3 feet high stopped (not walking) could break the screen? Actually it's not even scratched, it simply goes blank and there's a dark spot on the top left corner. This is not usual of treos. Any suggestions as to warranty claims? I have another identical we purchased the same day and it has fallen a few times but great! no harm yet. Any ideas?????? THIS IS THE MAIN BUSINESS TOOL! He's considered divorcing the whole palm familiy! please advise!

He DROPPED the phone...........what exactly does he expect. As was mentioned on your other thread, it depends more on how it landed than anything else. It sounds like he cracked the LCD fluid so it's probably going to need to have it replaced BUT it sounds repairable. Your problem might be that there are not many spare parts available yet especially to the aftermarket which means you'll need to take it to Palm and see if they can help you.

You might consider that NOT breaking is unusual and that breaking is normal so you were lucky the other times and be happy at how many times you were lucky.

Did you turn left in front of a Metro Train??? LOL

I'm glad to hear you and your phone are fine! You know how dangerous the streets are in the 'big city'

And sound advice from your wife...

I dropped my treo and all was OK. Then I noticed that the join near the LCD is very slightly open compared to the other side. Took out the rubber stop but cannot see any screws to try and retighten to fix this problem. It still works just would like to fix it as the unit is new.
