Treo 680 Crash During Sync?

A bit of my personal Palm history. I have been a Palm user since the 2nd generation Palm Pilots back in the mid 90's... A couple of upgrades along the way.

I have used a Tungsten C for a couple of years now. My most important Palm App is InfoSelect for the Palm by MicroLogic. It is actually the reason I went from a Graffitti based Palm to a keyboard unit: I started typing all of my client visit notes into InfoSelect and synching back to InfoSelect for Windoze!

I started thinking earlier this year that it was time I moved to an integrated cell phone/ PDA. As there is no InfoSelect for Windows Mobile, it was going to be a Treo. My cell phone provider, Rogers, had the 650. So, early this summer, I ordered a Treo 650 from Rogers. Bought a bunch of accessories and started to use it.

Within a couple of days, I realized that it crashed constantly during Hot Sync. I mentioned this to Tech Support at one of the Windows apps I consult on and they gave me a link to a web site about a lawsuit by Treo 600 & 650 users against Palm. Rogers couldn't fix the probs ... so I shipped it back and went back to separate cell phone & PDA!

While I checked out the Treo 680 forum prior to joining, the most frequent 680 problem mentioned is battery time ... but, as far as I am concerned, that is relatively easily fixed by buying a 2nd battery!

My question to those who use the 680: do you experience an inordinate number of crashes while HotSynching? There has been some mention of it but it doesn't look abnormal.

If responses indicate that the Treo 680 is more stable than the 650, I will order one from Rogers!

Thanks very much,

John

I wouldn't pay much attention to that, a lot of the issues they reported are down to them not knowing what they are doing. Others could have been sorted by alternative methods. It also seems stupid to me to start a law suite over a product that was discontinued several years ago

Going back to your original point, I've never had a problem with my 650 crashing during a Hotsync. The most likely cause of your problem is a corrupt DB file.

I haven't had any crashing issues with my 680. It's great!

My 680 is crashing with Filemaker Pro and Filemaker Mobile. I can enter information, but when I try to sort, it crashes the program and restarts the Palm OS. Very frustrating since that is one of the major reasons I use it.

A Palm device crashing doesn't mean it's unstable. You should also consider the possibility that the applications you use are not 100% compatible with the new device.
