My new Treo 680 : SMS lost during upgrade

Hi all Treonauts,

This is my first post, and I'm sorry to start by posting problems...

I bought my new Treo 680 today, and this is the first time I have a serious problem installing a Palm OS device.

I am a Palm a user of the first palm ever the Palm Pilot (still operational) and gotten too much used to see everything work out of the box.

So the problem: I have my Treo 600 about to die after a couple of years of satisfactory services.
I aquire the new Treo 680 (very slik machine I love it!)

I install as usual, and do my hotsync.

BIG Problem: all is synchronized except the SMS directories.

I still can see all the SMS files in the backup database, I can even read the contents if I open with notepad or something similar, but there was simply no way to install them on the Treo 680.

I tried renaming the SMS_msg_Database.PDB into Messages_Database.PDB, reinstalling etc...
NO WAY.

Anybody had the same problem ?
How did you solve this please?

When you say SMS directories, do you mean saved sms logs?

Hello Forgot,

in my Treo 600 I had many dozens SMS threads, each one containing many send and received sms.
For example I had
- a chat with Mr John phone No 123456789 (5 sent 7 received)
- a chat with Mrs White Phone No 987654321 (10 sent 1 received)
etc...

This was saved in the backup directory in different files:
- SMS_Msg_Database.PDB (I think this one is the index of the Phone Numbers and names of people with whom I exchanged SMSs) This seems to be the SMS directory or Index file pointing to the files below:
- dozens of files named SMS_336123456789AEF43528xx.PDB and SMS_33698765432176GFEDA765xxx.PDB etc.
These containd the threads of messages (SMS_12345678 would contain the text of my exchanged 5+7 sms with Mr John)

After I installed the new Treo 680, and did the sync, when I push the messages button on the Treo I have an EMPTY SMS list, as if I never sent an sms to anybody.

I checked few things, and found out that the TREO 680 saves the SMS in a file called Messages_Database.PDB

I sent a couple of sms to myself and from my wife's Treo etc. and in fact the new SMSs are saved in this new Messages_Database.PDB

I also verified that when doing the sync with "Desktop overwrites Palm" to make sure that all the SMS i the bacup are installed into the treo, I can see that indeed all the SMS files of the Treo 600 (now in the backup) are copied and installed into the Treo 680.

Unfortunately, for some reason they seem to be in a format that is not compatible with the Treo 680. Or I missed something...

I just upgraded from Treo 600 to 680 and happened the same SMS history loss after HotSync. Ops, it is not a loss since it is there on the 680 but cannot be read.

Did you get any solution?

Can anyone help on this?

This is my second post, and contributing with nothing... only to say that I too have the same problem of history of SMS lost when I changed from a treo 600 to a 680.
I bought the 680 three days ago, in a service plan in Mexico. I think it is a unlocked phone. I have not received any SMS since I started using it, even though I autosend me an SMS from my wife´s phone.

Hope there is a solution.

Hi Treo users, hello to everyone, I'm writing from Italy and this is my first post on this forum.

I'm the developer of a software called Treodesktop.
In the last v2 release (still in betatest, but full working - it will be released in a few days), I'm working for an enhanced option to migrate the Treo 600 messages db into a new Treo 650/680/700p.

But this is only an "added" option of my software, because the primary target of Treodesktop is to import messages (and calls) on a local user database, in order to build - month by month, year by year - a whole personal archive on the desktop, in a readable form. Moreover, any data (or whole thread chat) can be exported on RTF or TXT file.

This is the solution: TreoSMSConverter

We released this FREEWARE tool, to convert the old messages database (from Treo 600 and some old Verizon 650) into the new database format, ready to be synced to a new Treo (modern 650, 700p, 755p and Centro).

Doing so, you will be able to migrate all your messages from the old device into your new Treo.
