Can anyone comment about speed in web access?

I went to Cingular store yesterday. Only 1 of 3 had a 680 able to access internet. I was not iimpressed with speed of access to pretty common sites, especially compared to one of their employees who demonstrated the speed of his blackberry's access to web pages. Any comments?

You can choose between normal and fast mode. The fast mode goes considerably quicker, as it doesnt load pictures or style frames, which are both largely unnecessary when using internet on you mobile IMO.

With Blackberry you don't actually have direct access to the internet, it's more of a stripped out version of the internet and often with many corporate restrictions which disallow many sites and often many graphics. When you get to certain sites that use graphic buttons your really unable to use it.

So what is said about the fast mode above is more comparable but I love the palm because it's not restricted. Just about all the people I know don't use their blackberries for anything except mail and sometimes phone because the company foists it on them. They prefer treos or something else for web. Course to each their own.

In the end the two machines are using the SAME connection so how much different can it possibly be....

I will tell you this. The speed difference in blazer between my 650 and 680 was noticable. I've used it all across the state and the speeds are great everywhere, and I primarily use the wide mode.

I've been using mine, and compared to my friends Treo650, then his Cingular8125, my 680 loads pages much quicker. He has a grandfathered in $12/month unlimited data access so I'm not 100% sure if he's got some sort of slow access but *I don't think so*?? Anyway, mine's ripping fast. The only frustrating thing is a lot of pages say they are too big to load into the Palm.

Problem with demo phones is that the cache builds up fast and if not deleted will slow down the internet access...

It all depends on where I am. At home or in my office I get really slow data connections, but I don't really need it there so it's not a big deal. Other places it seems to work quite well and fairly fast. Last night I checked the TSA's carry-on rules for a friend so she knew what she could take on her flight today. I was able to find and load up the PDF fairly quickly. I just wish you could access it directly from Blazer instead of having to save it and then open it.

Speed

I had a moto q on verizon's evdo before the 680. I can't tell the difference. They are both decent.

You may also be seeing a difference between 2G and 3G. The 680 is 2G, the blackberries may be 3G.
