Palm 680 Network Identification Garbeled Text - Treo Forum

Has anyone seen the issue where the "Cingular" Name and signal strength area becomes "garbled"? The signal strangth goes to no bars, and the "Cingular" text becomes characters and seems bold. The calls and messages inbound still work, but you loose the ability to call out. And a simple reset or power cycle of the "phone" part does not resolve the problem. I am finding this condition after both inactive and active times. Can someone please tell me what it is. It is device independent. I have already had 3 680s, and 2 out of 3 did it. The third, never synced to the network.

Yeah, my wife and I had the same problem with the locked versions. We both have unlocked ones now and it hasn't happened with the new ones yet. Cingular had no idea what caused the problem. Very strange

Did you get your phones from palm, or did you simply use a code or something to "unlock" them?

I ordered them from palm because I wanted a ceopr one and a crimson for my wife

Lots of posts showing up in the cingular forum about this...I have the same problem with my cingular Treo 680. also posts showing up in the Brighthand forums.

It appears to be a Cingular-only problem.

I keep on getting this problem. My wife and I ordered two Cingular Treo 680 from Wirefly.com three weeks ago. Her phone gets this exact problem several times a day. We already exchanged her phone for a new one - same problem in new one.

I finally saw it happen on my Treo last night. Good news - removing the battery and resetting does bring our Treos back to normal. Until the next time, that is.
