Freezing in the phone mode?

I note one other comment on this but no answers. Freezes with a bunch of gibberish letters in top left corner. Cannot turn screnn off. Have to take the baterry out.

AND another minor question. I live in a place without Cingular service. Does it save on the battery if phone mode is turned off when out of range of service?

D-Dog seems to be having the same problem with the gibberish in the corner, but I haven't heard anything else about it. Hmmmm....

Garbage Text and Phone Freezes

I've had the same issue. Last Sunday I woke up and checked on the phone. I had all Garbage TExt in the top left where it normally says "Cingular". Pulled the battery to reset and said Network Search for 10 minutes then, No Service. I left it off for a while and turned it back on and all was fine. For a bit...

Now, If I use the green button when answering incoming calls the phone pauses or freezes for a second or two then may or may not pick up. If it does pick up after the call teh garbage characters are back for about 30 seconds then goes back to saying Cingular. One person that called me told me it went straight to voice mail.

One work around I found is to answer the call by using the center button rather than the green button.

Any one else have this issue?

That does not sound normal and I wouldn't accept that on a spankin' new phone. Call the tech support immediately and get a new phone quick BEFORE they have and refurbs to send to you.

Gibberish and Freezing

Same problems as others with a Cingular Treo 680. We got two the day after Thanksgiving and started having problems the next day. Last night I went back to the Cingular store and they exchanged my Treo...twice. I am now on #3. my partner returned his also, he is now on #3 but tonight at dinner it did the same thing. (mine has been flawless however since yesterday) The Cingular store told him they would not exchange it any more in store - that he would have to deal with tech support instead. Thats BS.

issues we had on both phones: Sporadic restarts, freezes, gibberish, would not connect to network (could remove SIM and put in another phone and immediately connect to network, put it back in Treo and nuttin), lag time in key response, sporadic syncs. Most issues resolved by removal of battery and restarting. Connecting to Network or loosing connection and going SOS Only, required taking SIM out also.

Treo has some serious issues here by the looks of it.

In persuit of an answer it's reasonable to assume that perhaps it's not the phone since you are on #6 (btw the both of you). Perhaps it's software that your running or the SIM chip that your using.

You have not mentioned if you have done anything in these areas to address your freezing issue.

D-Dog is on a distinguished road
I have been having the phone crashing/garbage text problem at least once a day since I have gotten the phone (2 weeks later). I talked with Cingular Tech Support and they told me to exchange it at the store before my 30 days is up. I was going to stop by there today but hearing that you guys are having the same problems makes me hesitant on exchanging the phone for a new one. I am brand new with the Cingular network so the SIM I received was also brand new. One interesting thing was I was just in Chicago (I live in OC) the last two days and even though I was busy and didn't think about it, I do not remember this problem occurring as often, I think it happened only once (I should have taken better notice of it). I also just got my first bill prorated for a week and it seems way to high so even more reason to visit the store!!!

Still the same issue

Ok, so I did as advised. I'm now on Phone #2 and still have the same problem / issue although less frequently.

Here's my question...

The first 680 I got has a SIM with the 3G symbol on it. (I know the phone does not do 3G.) When I got the new phone it had a 64K Smart somethingoranother SIM card.

When I tried to activate the new phone with the new SIM (with a Cingular rep on the phone) it wouldn't activate. She advised me to put the old 3G SIM in the new phone and that worked... for a while. All was well for a few days, then, back to the lock ups and jibberish.

So... my question is... does the SIM matter? I'm sure it does but... In other words... does a 3G phone need a 3G SIM? If so, since the Treo 680 is not a 3G phone what SIM should it really use? The 3G one or the 64K SMart somethingoranother one? or do they just 'advertise' on thier SIM?

Could that be the issue. My phone going to talk to the tower, trying to get a 3G connection (even though the phone does not do 3G) and that's what's screwing it up?

What SIMs does everyone else have? What does it say on the top of yours?
