Phone contact list -- displaying only a select few

Hello...

(Tried doing a search, but I couldn't find anything that helped. Apologies in advance if it's been discussed.)

I bought a Treo 680 (Palm unlocked) for my wife, and it's a pretty neat device.

The one issue I'm having is that 95% of all the contacts on the Palm Desktop really don't need to be on the phone. Now when she scrolls through the phone's contact list, it's filled with people and businesses she doesn't ever needs to call--interspersed with people she does.

Even if I file the contacts under the various categories, she only needs a select few from each category.

Am I relegated to creating new contacts and filing it under a special category so that particular category is displayed when opening the contact list? Or is there an easier way?

In short, I kind of want it to be as if she's using a generic cell phone (which she is migrating from), and it lists only the name of the contact--and only of the people she calls regularly (about 15-20 people).

Thanks in advance.

I'd go back and copy the contacts she needs from her old phone to the SIM, then delete the contacts from the Treo, then only the SIM contacts would show up when she puts her SIM in. Then set it so it doesn't sync her contacts, just everything else.

Is there a setting where it automagically displays the SIM card contacts when you access the contact list from the phone interface? The manual makes it seem that you need to press a few extra buttons to display the SIM card's contacts.

That said, having all the contacts on the Treo isn't that big of an issue. It's just that it would be best if the Treo only access the SIM card's contacts when in the phone interface, and all the contacts when accessing it from the Palm OS interface.

(I'm not near the phone, so I won't be able to try anything until later tonight.)

It'll show both the regular contacts and sim contacts.

I don't get it. If she doesn't need the contacts on the phone, then get rid of them. If you want quick access to her SIM contacts, then you can either set them up as speed dials, or use a program like Butler to have even more speed dials, or use a program like FastLaunch, which will list contacts alphabetically depending which key you choose (e.g. w will bring up all the contacts that begin with w). Personally, I prefer to use TAKEphONE, because of the iBar that gives you the ability to have all your favorite contacts and/or apps (up to 25) on one screen. I also use VoiceDialIt, for my more commonly used contacts, so that I can call them without dialing while driving in the car. Just a few suggestions.

I'll get rid of all the contacts, make sure all contacts on her old phone are loaded on the SIM card, and we'll see how that goes for a while. (And disable contact sync-ing.)

Thanks everyone.
