Trouble resetting 680

I recently installed Chatteremail, and while I'm pleased to be accessing my office email messages (since my IT department couldn't configure anything except BB products), the 680 has been locking up frequently since installation and requires frequent (at least daily) reboots. I can actually live with that...for now. My problem for the post is that often times, the 680 will reboot, but the phone will not turn-on with the first, or even second, reboot.

More specifically, the ATT logo screen will flash, with the tone sounding as if the phone is activating, but there will be no recognition of any network access, or network time sync. Pressing the red button to start the 680, it will go through the exercise of the phone restarting (screen and tone) but the phone side of the device does not turn on without, usually, several reboots.

Sometimes, perhaps 25% of the time, an error message will indicate that the sim card is missing or damaged.

Other times, again perhaps 25% of the time, the reboot will freeze at the "preferences" screen, for automatically setting date/time/time zone, and I will need to through successive reboots to get the phone to reactivate. On these occasions, the phone screen and tone does not take place.

To the best of my recollection, a hard reset, where I erase all data and restore it from my sd card, generally does reboot without hanging.

My phone was newly purchased from ATT, it's never been heavily abused and I am still within my warranty period. Does anyone believe that this problem might be corrected by a new sim card (can the card be faulty, and still work some of the time)? Failing that, does this sound like a software or hardware problem?

P.S. The "freezes" take place both during calls and when the phone is not in use. Often, the 680 will be placed in a jacket pocket working fine, and come out with a continuous red light on, and in the frozen state.

Other than Chatter what other 3rd part apps do you use and are these all up to date?

Prior to installing Chatteremail a couple of months ago, and other than the software that came preloaded from Palm, I had installed the Splash Suite, Card Info, Google Maps, Card Reader, File Z, Key Link and a trial version of Neatfreak. Since then I've installed Volume Care, Time Deluxe, Zagat and a trial version of Crash Pro. I also have a couple of games installed on an sd card. I believe that all of the applications are up to date.
The 680 came pre-installed with last year's major update from Palm.

Case closed

Interimittent sim card outage became permanent. New sim card did the trick. Perhaps that accounted for the palm freezing up as well, in the midst of chatteremail data transmission. Thanks for the interest.
