![]() | HELP! Is replacing the keypad a good idea? Hey gang, I attempted to buy a Treo 650 for the wife from the same eBay seller I bought mine. The unit I got has a keypad that seems "worn" in that the keys are "lower" so to speak, such that sometimes they just don't work at all (so, I press home key or menu key and nothing happens) or they affect each other (so, I press keys on the right side like i or p and the shift key activates)... I'm wondering if it makes sense to attempt buying a replacement keypad, opening up the Treo following a Treo 650 take apart guide video, and putting the new keypad in? Anyone else have a history or experience with this issue? The Treo itself seems to work fine, when the keys work. But when they don't work, it's useless and my wife isn't going to tinker and mess around with it, it's gotta work for her straight up. Thanks for any guidance provided. |

![]() ![]() | it's easily done, just gotta find a good video or guide to follow. putting a new keypad in might take care of your problems, but then again, it might not. you won't know until you get in the housing and see if there's anything bent or broken. good luck with the transplant! |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | As Brandon stated it is easy to do. Use the link below to view the video. You do not have to remove the display, when you disassemble it just push the display out with your mother board. Then remove the keyboard and replace it. Reassemble the motherboard and screen (they just slide into place) then clip the back on and test it. Matt YouTube Video: http://forum.treonauts.com/treo-mode...een-video.html |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | I have a dead shift key on my keypad, the lower right hand one. I was able to disable the key by removing the top contact from the key. Is there anywhere you can buy a new keyboard for the 650 without buying the entire treo broken and taking out the keypad. I have seen several sites that sell the keyboard, but it is just the plastic buttons, not the pcb underneath it. |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | I bought my 650 on ebay, works great but the face was scratched to he**. I found a new housing on ebay and replaced the housing, keypad, and side buttons. It is very easy to do once you watch the video. By the way Lowes sells a set made by cobalt that has the #5 torx bit in it, which you will need. Good luck |
