Question Is your first ring REALLY loud?

Hi all -
I've searched the forum a bit and can't find a related thread, so here goes...

I have a Cingular branded 650 on Cingular running FW 1.51, SW 1.17-CNG

When I initiate a call using any interface (the handset, wired headset or BT in-car), the first ring is really, really loud. After that it drops to the 'normal' volume as set by the volume buttons. It's not so annoying with the handset, but it is almost painful with the wired headset. I've almost thrown my phone out the window on several occasions b/c of this
I've removed all 3rd party volume apps (such as volumecare). My wife's 650(also a Cingular branded 650 on Cingular running FW 1.51, SW 1.17-CNG) does the same thing.

Does anyone else have this experience? Is this a Cingular thing or a Treo thing? Is there anything that I can do?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Cool

Could it possibly be the ringer apps it set to either increasing or, decreasing ring? starts out loud and decreases as the phone rings longer? My 700wx does that, it took a while for me to figure it out...good luck..

trailertaskforce - Sorry for the confusion, the problem is when I initiate a call. So I am hearing the ringing over the handset, headset, etc as the call goes through.
I think the ringer apps you are referring to modify the sound / volume of incoming calls, no?

Thanks for considering my issue,
Chris

I dont have loud rings... i have mild rings almost low... In my work environment I have to have my cell off during non break/lunch periods when Im on our floor... so when I turn it back on in the break or elevators I find that my volumne auto goes down to 2 bars below max (i believe the default level)...

I have yet to hook myself up to BT - good luck bro on your quest

I have a verizon treo and I get the same thing but not to the point you do, as I have not been tempted to throw mine yet I have not found any fixes, most 3rd party apps control your ring, not the ringing on the other end. Let me know if you figure it out.

Wow cbosso thats a really intresting problem.

Couple of questions:

1. Has it always done that?

2. Is it loud in the same way for the first few seconds of call if someone calls you?

If it hasn't always done that it sounds like a software error got introduced somehow. You could try a hard reset or zero out reset and it may fix it. I can't find the link right now since I'm replying to this thread on my Treo.

Let us know how you get on.

~ Steph

Skoeing -
Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions:

1. I think it has. For that matter, I checked out a non-Treo Cingular phone this weekend and found that it's first outgoing ring was louder than the rest. For that non-Treo phone it didn't seem to be so pronounced though. Perhaps that was because I was using the handset and not a headset lodged into my ear canal

2. Nope, just the first ring when I am originating a call. I have the volume set to a level that is appropriate for the conversation (ie set from the last call), but the first outgoing ring is decidedly louder. After that the volume appears to fall back to my previous setting.

I've tried some various soft resets, and there is no change. Remember that my wife's Treo 650 does the same thing. She has a completely different set of (non standard) apps that she likes to run. Now that I've seen two Treos and one Motorola behave in the same manner, I'm starting to think it is a network thing with Cingular.

Thoughts?
Chris

I'm thinking your right on this. Since I've read this post I've started listening for what your talking about, and I now know what you mean. It's funny that I've never noticed it before. I guess it's that first ring while it connects to the network, before patching the call through to the recipiants phone.

Agreed. It seems Cingular amp up a small period of time on first connection.

How about stiucking your sim into an another Treo (other than your wifes) and seeing if it does the same thing...
