| A Few Questions.... ![]() | What’s up gang!?!? It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on this forum and I have a question/problem that I’m hoping someone could shed some light on this problem for me. Obviously I have a Treo 650 that I’ve had for quite some time. It was working fine until last summer my nephew happened to push me into their pool while my Treo was in my pocket. You could imagine my frustration when I came out of the pool. I figured the Treo was done but said to myself let me see if drying it off would bring it back to life. So I ended up taking the Treo COMPLETELY apart, used some compress air to get the water out of the really hard to reach places, and let dry for some time. Unfortunately I couldn’t be with a cell phone and my patience was non-existent at that time. My carrier is Verizon and I was due for a new phone (I qualified for the New Every 2 program). Since I was a little short on cash I had to get a phone that was free so I ended up going with an LG Chocolate phone (I hate it). It was a free phone so I figured how can I go wrong? Any who…to my surprise my Treo phone is functioning fine. It powers on and I can access features on the phone with no problems. So I decided to try and activate the phone again. Here is where my problem comes in… I activate the phone on-line through Verizon’s website. Once I get confirmation that the phone has been activated I’m told to dial *228 to program it. When I dial to program the phone I lose the call within 10 – 15 seconds (the call doesn’t last no longer then 15 seconds) and I get the following messages on my screen: OTA Service Provisioning ***Failure*** Programming Unsuccessful Your call was lost or dropped. Here’s the funny thing…and I’m not sure if anyone has experienced this. Although the phone hasn’t been programmed successfully I ended up receiving a text message from my wife on the Treo. This confused me because I wasn’t able to program the phone and every time I try to I get the message mentioned above. I’m even able to respond to the text successful. Although I haven’t tried to make a phone call from the Treo I wanted to ask you all what could be the explanation to all of this and why am I not able to program the phone if it SEEMS to be functioning fine. Again, I understand that the phone has been submerged under water but if I’m able to receive text messages why wouldn’t I be able to program the phone and make calls. I’ll try activating the phone and making a call but I wanted to get some knowledge from the folks on this forum. Thanks and sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly appreciated! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Have you tried calling Verizon to see if they have everything on their end right for provisioning the phone? Sounds like the data communication is working fine, just not the phone itself. |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Hey stuartrayner! My first attempt to activate the phone was with Verizon's Customer Service Center. I ran into the same problem on the phone with them and they couldn't explain why that was happening. They kept telling me that it was something with the phone and not their network. I could try calling them back in hopes that I get someone who is more knowledgeable on situations like this. Especially now that I'm getting and sending text messages with no problems. Before I do though...would you think there might be anything else? Thanks again!!!! |

Go figure that one....If this is the only issue you seem to be having, and your phone is working right on their network (like Stu said, check and see if things look ok on their end) I would just be glad it all worked out. Have you had any other issues?

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Other than not drowning my nephew after he pushed me into the pool...no. I guess what I could do is contact Verizon again and let them know that I'm able to receive and send text messages on the phone but for some strange reason I can't program it and make phone calls. I just wanted to see if anyone had any problems like this. Verizon told me that I would have to send the phone to PALM to get it fixed but if it's working fine I don't see the reason why I should do this. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ahh..gotcha. Wasn't clear on the whole "can't make calls" thing. Taking a wild swing at this....have you tried a hard reset yet?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would take it into the nearest Verizon store (or if they have techs at certain stores, the one with the nearest techies). Have them look at it and call CS for you. Trying to call them while on the phone won't get you far evidently. Best of luck. Hope it works out. I will second Forgot's statement though and say if it does work out, you are very lucky. These phones are like cats, they hate water. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | To call Palm? That is a Network Provider issue. People hate Sprint but they serviced my Treo with the quickness! They even had a Treo Dr, that's what his business card said, and he hooked me up. |
