Replacing the Treo 650 Screen Video

This is a helpful video for replacing your Treo 650 screen if anything should happen to it, I laughed near the end of the video when the guy had replaced the screen and put it all back together only to find he had an extra bit on the table.....

Unhappy Just replaced my screen.. now it's blank!! Help!

Replaced my screen with a new one ordered from eBay, as per the seemingly straightforward youTube video. Installation was easy, but now my phone will turn on, the keyboard lights up, but the SCREEN IS BLANK and seems to be receiving no power. I tried reinstalling my old cracked (but still functional) screen, but that too seems to get no power now. Is there some step to ensure that power gets to the screen that might have been skipped in the youtube video? The ribbon is firmly clipped in the board.

mcburns68,

Wow didn't see your post. I'm assuming you reseated the screen and checked lock down for the ribbon? In particular make sure the ribbon is inserted square to the socket, on other projects - like messing with a Powerbook - the ribbons weren't seated correctly and by not being totally square didn't reach the required depth to make full contact across the face of the ribbon.

Unhappy Different Ribbon cable sizes?

My friend just replaced his screen on his Treo 650 with a new one (both Verizon version phones) and while he was putting the phone back together he noticed that he ribbon cable for the screen of his phone was bigger than the ribbon on the screen he was replacing it with (if that makes any sense). The difference in size was signifcant.

Does anyone know if there are different versions of the screens? Are there different generations? The replacement screen's ribbon is much slimmer.

When he puts it all back together, the new screen does not power on. He takes it all apart, puts his old (cracked) screen in and it lights up fine.

He says the ribbons seem to be different. Anyone have any experience with this? Did he get the wrong screen (they were both Verizon Treo 650s)? Any advice for him? Let me know.

I've recently swap out a damaged screen and found the video at PDAparts.com to be effective and comprehensive.

screen blank after replacing touch screen

Does anyone have a suggestion? Followed the youtube video which was excellent. Everything appeared to be OK but only the keyboard and the amber light will light when inserting the battery after which they'll switch off fter about a minute. Then the keyboard (not the amber light...) will light, turn off which is where it all ends. I wouldn't mind seeing something on the screen... Where could I have messed things up? Cables are connected, fround seems ok. Please help!

I'd double checked the internal cables are fully in, sometimes they look ok but then you push them and they move another mm

I've just gone through the same process. When I compared the new, ebay purchased screen, and the original cracked screen the ribbon circuits or tracks appeared to be different (i.e. the bold tracks weren't in the same positions) but the ribbon was the same width. Sure enough the screen didn't work and the old one wouldn't work when I changed it back. 3 months later and a very helpful local phone repair shop involvement it is now working brilliantly. I think the phone shop replaced the screen (again) and motherboard to get it going. If nothing else, I have learnt that there are some cheap things on eBay that are to good to be true!
