Random Resets

OK. I have been getting random soft resets lately on my Sprint Treo 650. Randomly, during the day, when I am not even using the Treo - it will be off and in my belt case - I will hear the reset tone. Sure enough, I pull it out and it is resetting. No data is lost except when it resets, it loses my mail account info in VersaMail. That made me think there was some kind of corrupt data file in versamail. I followed the KB instruction for deleting the versamail DB files and the problem returned. The resets are not even happening at the same time interval as my auto-sync of mail. To my knowledge, no other apps are doing anything automatically. I have not added any new software lately to the Treo, so I don't know where to start to troubleshoot this one...

Any ideas?

Have you downloaded any attachments lately?

Versamail has caused many people problems, maybe trial a version of another email client and under hotsync manager stop it syncing with your Treo.

To stop it syncing go:

System tray, right click hotsync icon
Click Custom
Highlight Versamail then click change, choose do nothing and set as default.

make sure you set your trial email client as default email on your treo.

If that solves the problem, it will defineatly be something corrupted in Versamail.

Have you updated anything on your Treo lately?

Have you tried a hard reset (make sure you back up your files first), then make a temporary id and try and set versamail up. See if it is really versamail that's causing the resets.

Hello j.mccann,

This is Kevin from Palm. Difficult to say what the culprit is for certain, though obviously Versamail is a suspect. Kimmy makes some good suggestions. Even though they don't seem related, you could turn off the autosync for a day, just to see if you still experience resets.
But one of the first troubleshooting steps one can take to determine the cause of a reset is to access the Treo's error log and see what it says about the crash. For Sprint, you would dial ##377 (##ERR on the dialpad for error) and choose Dial. (Reference: Find out if your Treo 650 or 600 reset itself (and the error code it recorded))

Sincerely
Kevin

I've had a very similer problem before. What worked for me, as both Kimmy and Kevin have suggested, is completely rebuild my account. The error code will sure help as well. Let us know!

Thanks for the hint. I had been told to try #*377 and then press dial. But when I do this I get a voice message that says "The number or code that you entered is incorrect. Please check the number and try again... Message 613"

I'll try ##377 after it resets the next time and see what it says.

It records the last time it was reset, so you could do it now and still see what the error code was.

I too had the problem; the rebuild fixed mine.
