![]() | So, after waiting months for my old work to clear up their bill and Sprint to release my phone from holding it hostage, I finally get everything worked out this weekend. And after not even 24 hrs of having it back in usage, someone knocks my phone off the counter and now I can't hear anyone on the other end when they talk.....it's just dead silence as if we are not even connected. The person on the other end can hear me, but I can't hear them. I did notice that their is no longer a "speaker" icon for the speaker phone when the call is active so I removed the battery and recycled the phone to see if it would clear it up. The "speaker" icon came back and when I tried to activate it to see if the speaker worked, it immediately place a red "X" over the speaker icon and I still got nothing. After that first phone call, the speaker icon is no longer there again. So, no speaker phone and no earpiece!!! I am ABSOLUTELY SO INCREDIBLY P!SSED RIGHT NOW THAT I CAN'T EVEN SEE STRAIGHT!!!!!!!! Any ideas? Or has this happened to anyone else here? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHH! Thanks! Doc |

![]() | I forgot to mention that when I call my Treo from my land line, I do get the ringer to work, but when I answer my Treo, I can't hear anything on the other end. Doc |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Since it's almost definitely no longer under warranty, you can open up the device and replace the speaker yourself, if you're at least somewhat savvy. The speaker is available here for $15, plus shipping. Opening the Treo requires a Torx T5 screw driver. I recommend getting an ESD grounding strap so you don't damage the Treo when working on it. Here is a link to a thread with a video that details replacing the screen, which you can use as a basis for the work you'd be doing.

![]() | So, the wierdest thing. I let it charge overnight and when I went to use it this morning, everything is O.K. I have made many phone calls without a hitch. I don't know why it would be working again, but I am not complaining. Lotus, Thanks for the links and info. It is much appreciated! Doc |

![]() | It's BAAAAAAaaaaacck! Was using the phone over the weekend and the earpiece went dead again. I will use the video and reseat the piece tonight. Hopefully, it just got jarred loose during the fall. If not, I guess I'll have to try replacing it with a new one. Thanks again for all the help! ![]() | Bummer and good luck. Also remember when soldering to a circuit board temp of the iron can be a factor. Not to hot! ![]() I myself use a butane soldering iron with temp adjustment. |

![]() | So I took the phone apart, removed and re-installed the same earpiece, re-assembled the phone, and............................................. NOTHING!!!!! DAMN!!!!!! Not really sure that it is the earpiece that is defective. I just don't see how it could have gotten damaged when dropped because of the way it is protected by rubber on all sides. I am thinking that it may be a broken solder point or something on a board since the phone does not aknowledge that it is there. When it was working for the week or so prior, the earpiece AND speaker worked fine. Now, that the earpiece is not functioning again, the option to put it on speaker isn't even on the screen so it's not recognizing that there is even one there. The headset that came with the phone works fine but I just hate using that damn thing. I guess the easiest thing might be to just start looking for a good deal on a 755. Undecided and frustrated.
