Hotsync problem--missing drivers? - Treo Forum

My Treo 650 was working great with the Hotsync, but after I reinstalled Vista it doesn't work at all. I reinstalled Palm Desktop and the hotsync app, and Windows recognizes that my handheld is plugged in but doesn't recognize what it is.

Is there a site where I can download Treo 650 drivers for Vista?

welcome to treonauts merr8877. Glad you are here. Do you have the most current palm desktop software as the one that opriginally came with the 650 was not compatible with Vista as I recall. So make sure you have or get a version that will work with Vista.

Have you installed the Vista compatible version from Palm? The one off of your disk won't work. Go to palm.com and go to support and then look for your phone. Their should be a download section for Palm Desktop. I am mobile right now or I would hook you up with the link.

Bye the Bye that Vista Desktop for Palm is in Beta, but it seems to be working fine.

Yep thanks I got the latest version of Palm Desktop and it still isn't working. is there a site where I can get the Treo 650 drivers?

Hmmm thanks LotusLord I will never use Vista (may do a duel boot with Xp as the primary) so I am not keeping up on the Palm Desktop builds currently.

Hmm it still will not sync with the Vista Desktop.
Might be some sync setting not set, right click Hotsync in the Quick launch bar and see what it is set too.
There are several options for syncing.
Local USB
Local
Modem
Network

Depending how you are doing it.
If you are using the USB craddle or cable for the phone then you want the "Local USB" to be checked.
Also you need to have your phone name set up as well.
Sorry it's been a while since I have set up my phone and it is late so I can't think much more beyond that.

It's all in the manual that you can download and view from PALM.

I had the same thing happen to me when I switched to Vista. I had to redownload and install the desktop several times before it finally took. The drivers are built into the desktop and there is no way to get just the drivers (according to Palm). Believe me, I searched and couldn't find them. Palm has a step by step "how to" regarding installing the Vista desktop, make sure you're following it. But again, I was and it took me like four times before I finally got it to work. The other issue with the 650 (if memory serves) is that Palm's website still says that desktop version 4.1.1 or whatever it is, is the most recent desktop for that phone (rather then the Vista version 6.2 or whatever it is).

So here is what I would recommend. Don't give up. Try the whole process over again. I think the instructions call for you to delete the current desktop before reinstalling. Try that, but then if that doesn't work, try downloading the new one over the existing one and see what happens. If worse comes to worse, you can always go to Palm.com to their support section and sign in to their on line Support chat. Obviously this is a common problem so they should be able to walk you through it.
