Red face 650 reboots, phone fades in 30 seconds

I bought a Treo 650 on EBay last summer and the seller did his best to solve the probs I had.

Specifically: phone reboots randomly, usually after sitiing in sleep mode for an hour. I push the red button the screen turns on and the phone reboots.

I get a call. I press the green phone to answer, the phone reboots.

If I make a call and say I get put on hold for more than 30 seconds the screen saver kicks in and the phone sound dies and the phone seems to turn off.

I've done a hard boot, soft boot and replaced the ROM with known working ones without results. These reboots are random but occur if device is allowed to sit. During continuous use these probs don't seem to show up.

I've heard that its a hardware issue with no fix ...is this true. I love this palm! The SIM card makes good contact. The battery charge has no effect.

Has the 750 had similar issues with the Windows OS

Windows Mobile software .....

Thanks for your reply.
What makes it harder to use?
After all the problems I've read about on Palm sites re the Palm OS I'm reluctant to get another Palm with the OS on it.

it's not that wm devices are harder to use, they're just a totally different os. it's like going from windows to mac; there's some similarities, but everything's set up differently. and i wouldn't give up on your 650 just yet. did you happen to purchase a warranty with squaretrade or some other organization? i realize this may be a stretch but have you considered selling your 650 and perhaps purchasing a device with which you'd be comfortable? i purchased a dell x51v to get a feel for wm6 and i was not at all thrilled with it; you might be the opposite. if you have a friend with a wm device, take it for a test drive. you may like it better. but know that wm and palm os both have their problems. everything breaks from time to time. welcome to the forum!

Well put brandon. I'd say the usual, any 3rd party software bit, but if you've done a hard reset with no luck in fixing the problem... Are you syncing from a previous Palm OS device by any chance?

No I installed everything fresh onto the computer running XP without any luck. Then I tried installing everything on my Vista laptop, from the beginning, with and without all the added software. With new ROM and nothing else on the Palm. Still rebooted as stated above.

I did use my sim card from my nokia phone in the palm. But its not more than 3 yrs old. So it's a 3volt SIM

This sounds stupid I know but I have to ask...

Have you done a zero out or hard rest and run it virgin with all default setting for a while to see if the problem persists - without synching..

Search hard reset here or at Palm for instructions...

Try a new SIM card anyway.
