Weird screen refresh / corruption issue

Hello folks,

I've had my Treo 650 for a couple of years now, and this problem has been there for a few years, but I've grown tired of it, especially since it seems to have gotten worse lately, especially when I visit Canada.

Whenever my Treo switches from Sprint to Roaming, or from signal to no signal, whatever is on the screen, regardless of what app I'm running, is blanked. I have to hit "Home" and go back or guess where buttons are on the screen to try to make it refresh.

If this happens when the Treo's display is off, and I turn it on, I end up with a corrupted version of what was on the screen before. Pressing "Home" fixes it, but it's still annoying.

Is anyone else seeing this problem? If so, what causes it? Is there a firmware update or hack that can stop it? When I'm Roaming in Canada it happens constantly, making the Treo difficult to use. Other than this cosmetic display problem my Treo has been trouble free for the past two years.

Welcome to Treonauts

Are you running any third party apps?

Have you tried a hard reset?

Hi zorinlynx.

Sorry to say that, but this is no cosmetic problem. It seems to me that it is a symptom of a real - and graver - problem. Most likely a conflict of some sort.

Follow the instruction of TazUk (HR), and if the issue persists, try a ROM update. It doesn't look like a hardware problem, though.

Please, only perform any operation on your Treo if you are absolute sure of what you are doing.

...ah! And welcome to Treonauts!

This has been happening ever since day one when I unboxed the Treo and started using it. It just never bothered me much until I started to roam outside the US more often.

I'm on the latest Sprint firmware and everything else on the phone works perfectly. Has anyone else seen this? My friend's Treo does it as well, so I'm thinking it's normal behavior but I'm just wondering if it's more general than just our two Treos.

That's really odd! I had a 650 for about 3 years and while I never ventured outside the US, I do "roam" here in the lower 48 on occasion and never had the screen just blank out.
