Pl help!Treo 650 won't power on. Recover data?

Hi all,

Been a fan of this site for awhile. Question: any advice on how to power on a dead treo 650?

Details:
-currently cannot power on despite overnight charges, and 2 previously working batteries. Soft and hard resets not working to revive treo. No red charging light any more either.
-last hopeful attempt this am led to grey Palm screen, then it froze
-provider is Sprint. Last sprint repair person got to grey screen also. Treo was dead after removing/replacing battery.

To be frank, embarrassingly I've been horrid about backing up my treo (for months). While I acknowledge the idiocy, I mainly seek just my contacts back. Any advice?

Available tools: Currently have a 650 replacement coming Thursday + have in hand a 755p on trial with its new box of accessories/software. My laptop with months old (I know!) hotsynced data available to me in 2 days.

Since I might have to write off my 650, ready to try more radical steps if there's any way to revive/replace my data, esp. contacts. Any advice?

Any way to pull data off a hard drive or chip? Didn't see answer yet on forum. blog or palm site that worked to re power on my dead treo. Thanks!

progress...I just got this far:
-when pushing battery hard against contacts for awhile, can get treo to power on to red battery light. Always while charger plugged in, after 2+ hrs charging
-once got to "enable local date/time", then froze. After soft reset:
-got to white Pa1mOne screen which fades, then no responsiveness
-now not reviving again

Any help today very appreciated!

Hmmm...you said you've tried it with a freshly charged battery as well? Did it get any futher when you gave the battery a "slight squeeze"?

If you've done a hard reset then the data will be gone anyway

Thanks. With a slight squeeze I can keep the solid red charging light. Then furthest is the white Pa1mOne screen fading to purple.
-Reset button leads to red charging light on but screen dark.

This happened before once, and I still revived to a grey Palm Powered screen yesterday. Haven't gotten there today.

Not sure if any "hard reset" took... tried with the power to the unit fully off, and thus no prompt to "replace all data".

Try opening up the treo 650

Then reassembling it.

It has fixed problems for me.

IT WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY

which probably expired already

I do't think you can recover the data unless you can actually access the device

There might be software that get get the data off your phone using the bootloader
(if you can get that far)

Though try opening up the phone then re seating the board then reassembling it.

Thanks all. With your advice, I'm now back into my powered on, rebooted treo 650. (I handcopied those elusive contacts for hard copy backup.)

Now I'm ready to;
a) hotsync data off 650 to laptop (don't have original computer with me) and
b) upload to new 755p.

BUT, I see cautions to be very very careful and not hotsync the just resusitated 650 with blank data off the PC. Can you advise how to transfer data?

I'm perfectly happy just getting my basic applications like contacts, photos, etc.I can reinstall the few frill software apps I added on later (weather, will no long need googlemaps, etc.)

Have:
-work laptop (not one with 6 month old 650 data)
-new. blank palmone driver for 650 downloaded off palm website
-755p CD installed
-new 755p and temporarily working 650

Thanks for any advice on not screwing up the upload from unbacked up treo to PC.

FYI, one low tech trick that worked was cleaning the battery contacts on the handheld and battery...with a toothpick. Apparently, it solved some contact issue for now.
