Headset jack issue on Treo 650

I'm having an odd issue with my Treo 650. Whenever I plug headphones into the 2.5mm jack, there seem to be three different things that might happen:

1. Audio comes through normally. (Rare on first try.)
2. Right channel of audio comes through normally.
3. No audio comes through.

Also, it may swap between the three with intermittent static. Moving the jack around will run through the above three options, but I once I find a working position I often have to hold the jack in place (or at least brace it against something). This happens on multiple headsets, so I'm presuming the problem is with the jack itself. Any guesses as to what I might be able to do?

Your right, it sounds like a problem with the jack. Got insurance on your phone? If you bought your phone from a carrier you should have a warranty for at least one year. If not you could always try to do it yourself!

I've had it for a few years now, so it's way out of warranty.

Good article, but I wasn't completely clear as to whether the hardware fix mentioned corrected issues #2-3 (which match my symptoms) or if they just fix problem #1 ("The internal speaker and speakerphone stop functioning"). (I imagine that the software fix wouldn't help if the jack is bad.)

I've posted this elsewhere but I'll post it again. I used compressed air found at any computer store. Try blowing some compressed air into the jack.

The 650 has a weak jack connection. There's a good discussion at Treo 650 Tips, Tricks and Hacks: Treo 650 Audio Jack Fix, Part 1.. When it goes (as your problem suggests, which like mine was progressive), you can try the hardware fix offered at the above link.
Instead, I have used the bluetooth solution, using Softick Audio Gateway (Softick Audio Gateway - A2DP wireless stereo headphones and headsets support for Palm OS handhelds and smartphones (Treo 650, Treo 700p, Palm TX, Life Drive, Tungsten T3 and more)) with the Motorola HT820 headset. The setup and activation sequence is important, but they have worked seamlessly.
