4gb SD card and transferring phones - Treo Forum

Hello All, I was looking for an answer to my problem when I stumbled on to this forum. This is cool and answers many of my basic questions. I have two 650’s one is an unbranded phone which the sound is out, and the second is a 650 Cingular. What I’m trying to do is use the 4gb SD chip from the damaged phone in the new one with loosing all my information. When install the old 4gb in the new phone I receive the statement: Would you like to format blah blah blah, I’m like NO

and press cancel. Which then will not allow me to access the data. Under Card Info. It does not recognize the format or the size of the card. Do I need to install something into the phone to read this card or am I doomed? Thank you - I look forward to reading your responses and helping others where I can…

a stock 650 will not recognize a 4 gb card. you need a modified rom which you can find on yahoo or google search. it is not recommended for the faint of heart and/or those in the possession of little technical knowledge.

If you've already done this (someone must have if it was working on your now damaged 650) try copying the files to your computer, formating in the new 650, then re-copying the info back onto the card. Like brandon said, it won't work if the ROM isn't modified on the new 650.

What is the maximum SD card the 650 can take. Which is the fastest?

Without using modified firmware the maximum is 2Gb.
