reset after hotsync

Hey gang,

All of a sudden, my Treo 650 has begun to reset after specific events...

- when I exit a file in Documents to Go, reset
- right after hotsync completes, reset

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Compared to the issues with paper-based datebook systems (after 7 years using DayTimer, I can never go back to paper), I won't be concerned if a reset is the worst issue I deal with, but it's a bit annoying when I'm in the middle of something and my Palm flakes out (especially when I'm showing a friend how awesome the Treo lifestyle is - "hey, check this out..." zaaap and the big pa1m logo shows up...)

Thanks for any insights...

Try deleting your backup on your pc (in the Palmone folder). Then sync, everything should come up OK-it always has for me. And don't worry a new bacup file will be created.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not solve the malady. I started another post regarding the hotsync log error messages http://forum.treonauts.com/treo-650/...s.html#post715

Not sure if they are related, but something oddball is going on with my Treo, and it really isn't that loaded with software (I've got a 2GB SD card half full, and most of that is just MP3s).

The resets you describe are most likely caused by some kind of database file corruption. It's hard to say what would completely fix the problem because you have to drill down into what application really caused the reset. You can enter a debug code to find out what caused the last reset. How you enter the code depends on your carrier.

Interesting. I entered the code and here's what it said...

System Error Log
A Reset was caused on 13.9.06 at 16:41 while running "HotSync":

PIMsDataMgr.c,
Line:135,
checkRecordChunk
means chunk is null...

Mmmmkay...ah...yeah, if you could just go ahead translate this into English...that'd be great, thaaaanks (in my best Lumbergh impression).

dataviztech is an app that DTG has for deleting a database in DTG. you delete the pref file and it works as new again. had a problem with that meself last month. don't know what could be with the reset after h/s though...

My searches have pointed to corrupted Contacts. There are few ways you might be able to fix the problem.
  1. Run dbScan to check for corruption (just not sure that it checks Contacts)
  2. Change Contacts hotsync to be desktop overwrites handheld to see if that replaces the corrupted Contacts on your Treo
  3. Follow the procedure in this Treocentral thread for fixing the corruption.
  4. Restore from a backup (if you don't backup nightly to an SD card, I would make sure to start doing that after you resolve this problem).

Nice post Alex

There's a couple of good backup apps that I've used..:

CardBackup - Simple and clean

BackupBuddyVFS - Like CardBackup above.

BackupBuddy.Net is good for remote backup for a subscription.

Alex and Skoenig,

Nightly back up is a good idea, I currently use RescoBackup, and have restored backed up data to get rid of certain problems.

Good thought.

OK, couple of things...

1. I tried dbScan and noticed that some of my repeating events that have no end date are causing a corruption problem. Must all repeating events have an end date?

2. I got a syng log error saying "my computer may be full or I may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop"... ?! My computer has got GBs of space, so that ain't it. Does Palm OS impose a maximum limit on the number of calendar records allowed?
