Treo 650 doesn't sync Calendar unless I change it each time

I recently purchased and Unlocked GSM Treo 650 (Cellular One) and of course I have Windows XP Media Center Edition. Every time I try to sync the files I must open the HotSync Manager and change the Calendar setting to "Synchronize the files" or else it defaults to "Do nothing". This is really starting to piss me off. I understand that Media Center edition is not supported by Palm but my friend has the same Treo and Media Center OS and she says hers syncs up fine.

In addition, I get an error message that reads:
HotSync Manager Application has encountered a problem and needs to close"

after syncing more than once.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Try closing, then reopening the hotsync manager. If this doesn't work, try deleting the palm desktop and reinstalling it. Make sure that you have the right desktop for your Treo as well.

Hello quartertil,

This is Kevin from Palm. Difficult to tell what the exact source of your issue might be, but an Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) account is one possibility. The Palm Knowledge Library article "Calendar conduit is set back to 'Do Nothing' after setting it to synchronize, and Calendar items do not sync" may be of help.
Also, forgot's suggestion regarding the hotsync error may be the best.

Sincerely
Kevin

Mine does the same, exactly

I didn't know about the EAS and neither did the Palm rep I talked to. So this is very good information. Thanks!

I got rid of the Exchange account but that did not help. Neither does restarting the HotSync Manager. I will try to reinstall the software (after I finish banging my head on the computer monitor) but I suspect that won't resolve the prob...I'll report back either way. And thanks all for the suggestions.

PS: Firmware version: 01.71
Software: Treo650-1.20-ENA

I think these are the most recent/up-to-date versions. BTW, if I delete the Palm Desktop and reinstall it, will I lose all of my calendar/contact/other entries?

I reinstalled PalmOne software but that did nothing either. I still have to change the calendar conduit manually each time I sync and then if I sync more than once in the same day HotSync will crash.

this may be a dumb question, but have you made the 'handheld overwrites desktop' the default action? what i mean is, have you ticked the box to the right on the conduits custom setup?

Yes, I have tried repeatedly to make "handheld overwrites desktop" or "synchronize the files" the default but no matter what, the calendar conduit is reset to "do nothing" when I re open the HotSync Manager. I can check "Change" and the default box till I'm blue in the face and it reverts to "do nothing". And then of course HotSync crashes....
:-( I don't know what else to try.

As long as you don't hard reset your Treo whilst reinstalling you shouldn't loose those entries.

For extra safety I recommend copying your TreoA (if you only have one profile) directory somewhere safe whilst you uninstall, download the latest version and reinstall. The directory contains your Palm data, apps you've installed and whatever databases those app have created (icluding serials and settings) - i the backup sub directory.

When you get done reinstalled tell the software you already have a profile and give it the name of your profile...

Then resych and cross your fingers.

It's an unusual problem you have there quarteril. If you decide to go the reinstall route let us know how you get on...

I might have the solution... I have Treo 680 however, and after trying out the Exchange Activesync server email in Versamail, I got the same thing - contacts and calander refuses to sync and no matter what it keeps reverting to "Do Nothing" and of course Hotsync manager will crash after that!

1. Remove the account in Versamail
2. From Hotsync manager on systems tray, select Custom
3. Go to Versamail, and delete the Exchange Activesync accout in there

Reset both PDA and PC. It did the trick for me.

Good luck!
