650 problem with using handset--no sound

Having problems with my Treo 650 it is only working with the headset plugged into the bottom. I unplug the headset and try to make a call, and the speaker button does not display, and I hear nothing as the call is placed. The call is going through fine. I have tried soft resetting and a hard reset to no avail. HELP...
any suggestions? thanks
HCI

If you take the battery out then plug it back in withouth the headset in can you make a normal call then?

Just trying to figure out if it's a hardware/contacts issue or software switch problem.

I'm having the exact same problem. This is the second phone this has happened to. I took my first one to the Verizon store and they said it was a hardware problem and I should talk to my phone guy at work. I talked to the phone guy and he said it was something in the software but none of the resets helped. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I love my TREO and I'd hate to have to swap it for the new phone style they are giving out at work.

No sound

had the same issue after having used a headset. phone would dial but had no sound and no mute button. very frustrating. Hard reset did not work. pushed headset plug back in, pushed power button and had sound tones on start up in headset. Fully removed headset plug and pushed power button again. Phone worked fine. Must be contact issue for phone plug.

Yeah the old jiggle and see.

I've done the same with different hardware. I've found the thin copper leaf used in these 2.5mm sockets can sometimes twist and stick in place.

However this usually leads to the device not making contact or it being hard to pull out the plug.

I've just experienced the same problem. I noticed that I lost use of the speaker (except for the headphone) and microphone for the telephone now. But I did notice that the speakerphone icon disapears and a new icon on the screen appears that looks like the 650 cell phone. I can't find anything in the manual which deals with this situation. Hard reset is no help. Anybody have any ideas?

This sounds like a plug issue or rather socket issue. Does anyone know, if on a non-faulty phone, the icon changes when a wired headset is plugged in?

I only have a 700p now and if I plug in my headset the speakphone icon disappears and, oddly, isn't replaced by a wired headset icon - just a missing icon slot.

I'm guessing it's in appropriate to suggest a checking your firmware for the latest as you've obviously all be using headsets happily in the past.

Out of interest what make of headsets are you all using here?

You may have a faulty audio jack. Either get it fixed or fix it yourself or use a software to bypass that jack.

Fix it yourself link

Get it fixed by someone reputable: Chris Short

Software to bypass the headset jack

headset - no sound

I spoke w/a tech support person at Verizon regarding this issue and was told that there is a software patch at Palm's website. Palm is aware of it and the new Treos have the patch already installed. I'm getting a replacement w/in a few days & will check to see if the operating system has the patch. I'll let you know.
