Well, I got my replacement phone and the software version for the Verizon Treo 650 is TREO650-1.04a-VZW. I'm not sure if this is the latest version with the corrective patch for the audio jack. Anybody know?

I solved it... the old fashioned way

It just happened to me again. The first time was several years ago and Palm replaced the phone. I've not needed a wired headset again until now, having used Bluetooth primarily since then.

Since this thread convinced me it was mechanical, and the reason it malfunctions has to do with the removal or insertion (one too many times) of the headset plug, I figured I'd try my old standby trick and bang it on the desk a few times. It didn't work at first, but persistence paid off. I tried multiple angles and several different pounding strengths. I'm not sure if it was the sheer repetition, educated guessing on whack orientation, or a combination of the two, but it started working before I broke something else. This is NOT a joke. I seriously did this - mostly because I was so pissed off that my phone would be rendered useless over something as stupid as a headset jack mechanical malfunction. How ridiculous is that? This should be a warranty repair issue for any phone regardless of time elapsed.

In any case, Fonzie would be proud...

Now, I'm going to get an iphone or something, before this thing breaks again. Goodbye Palm!! I've been loyal since Palm III, but you've trodden on my patience beyond the breaking point.

Pressing on the contacts with a thin screwdriver fixed it on my girlfriends Centro.

arlindsey, this is a common problem on all Treo models up to the 800w. They certainly wouldn't offer a warranty repair a 4-6 year old device now.

That can work but you must be careful. That solution has worked for many.
