Security password problem

Hey all,
Have had my Treo 600 for quite sometime and love it. I have a problem that I've been searching for an answer to but have not been able to find yet. Hoping someone here has some advice.

I use a password to hide my private records. It's always worked out well for me and when I synch my Treo I input the password so I can see the private records there as well and reassure myself the records came over.

Suddenly last week my desktop will not accept that password anymore. I know it's correct because I can hide/unhide records on my Treo. I've tried all the typcial caps issues etc. and still no luck.

At this point I was going to uninstall my desktop software, reinstall it and then change the settings on the first synch to have the handheld overwrite the desktop data.

Then again, I'm realizing my Treo is the ONLY place I have my account #'s, other p/words etc. and the whole idea of messing with this is making me nervous.

Has anyone else encountered this issue in the past? I'm open to any advice on dealing with my problem. thanks! - Cory

Ok firstly I'd suggest getting that data off the Treo.

Worst case cut and past all of it into a memo then resync to the memo out on to the PC. Whatever software yo're synching with , Outlook or Palm Desktop for instance, make sure you've got a copy of the data as a word doc or txt file. You can always upload the file to www.box.net or www.mediamax.com for free safe keeping.

OK with your data now safe we can begin messing around.

Firstly unpassword on your treo.
Then resynch (hand held overwrites desktop)
Then see if you can now access your data on both the Treo and PC.
If you can then reinstate the password and resync
Should work fine then.

If you can't there's no sense messing around and wasting hours when it only takes about 5 minutes to reinstall.

Follow your gut and uninstal/reinstall the desktop software.

Let us know if that worked for you!

Steph,
Thanks! Great idea to un-password the Treo. I'll do that tonight when I synch.

Unfortunately capturing the sensitive data isn't easy since I have it in the notes section of each entry. I've been thinking of using SplashID anyway so this may be a great time to purchase that upgrade and move that info anyway. Still, I'll try the uninstall/reinstall and post my results. - Cory

Well, over the weekend I reinstalled my desktop software and all is well again. I'm not sure why the program all of a sudden was not accepting the password I use on my Treo 600 but I'm greatly relieved to be able to fully back and see all my private records. Now I just have to purchase the Splash ID upgrade and take the time to move all that sensitive data over.

Thanks! - Cory

Glad things worked out for you Cory.

It's a great idea to centralise your passwords just make sure you have somewhere very secret where you keep unciphered versions...
