| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Firmware Upgrade I've got a 2 1/2 year old GSM Treo 600 that's starting to act flaky. I think updating to the newest Firmware may help .. I'm still on the earliest T-Mobile version I think!! (Treo600-1.08-INT, firmware 02.05) But before I update, I'd like to ask a few questions: 1 - Why are there so many updaters! http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...0_updater.htmlI'm using a GSM phone, I'd think all the GSM updaters should be the same, right? The phone is unlocked and has international roaming enabled. Will I need to call T-Mobile to get these re-enstated? Maybe just the unlocked updater would work. Hmm..could call T-Mobile, I guess. Any advice? 2 - I'd like to start out really clean, and only add new apps one at a time rather than just having my existing backup re-sync everything. But I'm not quite sure how to do this. I think I could just start a new User in the Palm Desktop (I'm using a Mac, the data is in ~/Documents/Palm/User/Treo600 right now), and move over the .pdb and .prc files one at a time. But I'm not certain. Has anyone done this sort of clean start? Thanks for any pointers! |

![]() ![]() | Well here's my 2 cents... 1. Each carrier has different settings they need on the phone to work with their service in addition to whats on the sim. Carriers also like to have branded boot screens and "Welcome to your phone..." type content which include tutorials and help programs a lot of which you can delete. 2. I think it's a good idea to start clean. Be aware however that some software registrations are based on user account names. To preserve the account name and if your contact and calendar info comes from another app like Entourage you can move out your pdbs and prcs from the current users data directory and remove the user, then recreate the user and install the apps one by one. Thus ensuring the least registration issues. You might loose some of the contact info that is unique to Palm Desktop though... Anyhow, I'm not an expert on mac stuff but thats what I'd try. ~ Steph |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | You want to rename your old directory on your computer. 1. rename backup directory 2. hard reset treo 3. sync with computer (only sync PIM's don't sync apps yet) 4. install old applications one at a time This will keep your existing User ID without restoring the old backup upon hotsync. I hope that helps! |
