![]() ![]() | I hear you... if I'd held my breath since my 700p I wouldn't be here. The problem has been compounded by some factors outside Palm's control but the things inside their control have been allowed to slip with lack of direction or just the plain wrong direction *cough* fooleo *cough*. ~ Steph

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I actually thought the Foleo idea was a good one, which has been borne out by the success of netbooks, the problem was with it's implementation and the way in which they were trying to sell it.

![]() ![]() | I don't disagree with the Foleo/Netbook comparison but I think Foleo wasn't thought out all the way and meanwhile the Treo line was underdeveloping and there was no movement on their OS (other than bring out more WM devices). Comparing the specs though and intended uses it's clear the Foleo is anemic compared to a Netbook (granted it was a year earlier than the first MSI Wind) and has a very narrow intended use. ~Steph

![]() | Lack of Innovation I've heard it said that because Palm is a small company as compared to Apple, they are slower to innovate. The opposite should be true. I've been a user of palm products since the original palm pilot. Which is why I have stuck with them so long. There were then as they are now a small player compared to some, but back in the early days they used that to their advantage. Out the door with innovative products while the larger companies held committee meetings and focus groups to determine if there was a market. I suppose as they got larger they started doing the same thing which has really hurt them these last few years. I'm no big fan of Apple and their "My way or the highway" thinking. But they do spark innovation which is the key all along. While the Pre will be easy to program for, I doubt that Palm's store will ever catch up to Apples iTunes for application software. And heaven forbid they continue to current pricing that is killing them. I'm reluctant to leave Palm and I've never had any problems with Sprint. But in my heart I know the iPhone will continue to receive useful updates while Palm may use its smaller size as an excuse to be very slow with updates. I hope I'm wrong. I really do hate leaving and AT&T's plans are more expensive. Perhaps I'll take a wait and see attitude until the end of the year and continue to hold on to my Centro until then. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There is a major update for the iPhone coming soon, known as v3.0, but some of the features it brings are things which many believe should have been there from the start. Things like cut'n'paste, MMS support, video recording, being able to send an SMS to multiple recipients, etc. Sure the iPhone gave the smartphone market a much needed kick up the backside, but it wasn't the all encompassing product that it maybe should have been.

And I agree with some other comments in this thread about the Treo Pro being an excellent phone. Which brings me to the 5 reasons I'm not buying a Pre anytime soon.1) it's not GSM, 2) it's on Sprint, 3) I own a Treo Pro, 4) it's not GSM, and 5) it's on Sprint. Seriously, GSM is a world standard. I no longer buy any phone that isn't quad band GSM, triband 3G. Second, Sprint's nonmetropolitan coverage has been an issue anywhere I've traveled with friends in the US. Third, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Symbian, etc. have a solid app base. It's going to take the Pre some time to catch up both with the galaxy of entertainment/fun stuff on the iPhone and the universe of productivity stuff for Symbian, Blackberry & WinMo smartphones. Till that's been at least somewhat accomplished, I've got no real reason to jump ship from a great phone that does what I want. | |

![]() | Staying with the Pro I certainly would consider switching to the Pre...but since I finally found a phone that does everything I need a phone to do, and does it well now that the ringer and notification issues are gone, it doesnt make sense to switch at this time.....I think I will wait some time and see how the Pre checks out before thinking of changing again! I think Sprint and others need to change a lot of their ways if they want to keep customers, and I want to see if they do so once Pre comes out. |
