Palm Pre / Treo Pro Release Dates - Treo Forum

I was just at a Sprint Store in Austin, TX asking when Pre would be out. Manager said Sprint is tight lipped about the release date. Another employee pulled out a Treo Pro dummy handset and said it (Treo Pro) would be out "soon."

WTF?

They want people to buy the Pro and not wait for the Pre. This so they could sell more of both devices.

Hopefully they (Sprint) will not end up shooting themesleves in both feet.

Do we really think this is true? Maybe from a Sprint salesman perspective the two devices are in the same category (both are "smart" phones and both say Palm on them), but Palm certainly seems to think that the two phones are going towards different markets: the Treo Pro is more for the business user for whom enterprise connectivity is paramount or for IT staff to purchase and provide to their corporate users, and the Pre is for the prosumer for whom a merging of work, personal life, style, and substance is paramount.

I think that if the Pre appeals to you, you're gonna have a hard time picking up a Treo Pro instead. But maybe I am misreading the smartphone-buying population.

I switched from the 750 to the Pro I may switch to the Pre when it56 comes out in the gsm flavor. Or I may stick with the pro. I am waiting to see what happens. I am hoping that palm and sprint dont screw this up for either device. I love the pro and the pre certainly sounds good but nothing will get me to switch to sprint.

I would definitely say that the Treo Pro and the Palm Pre appeal to different crowds for the exact reasons that you stated.

I use my pro for business and personal stuiff and if I buy the pre it will be the same. I just have to wait for the gsm release as I wont switch to Sprint!

Yep that what I readfrom a digfferent source. Hopefully the pre will be out soon Plam needs those 1.5 m units sold the quicker the better for Palm and Sprints financial health. Both Sprint and Palm where on a list of the 10 companies most likely to go belly up in 2009.
