Tomtom 8 is what I believe they use for their new stand alone devices, so it may be that they will skip a generation for PDAs to get them caught up. Since NOVA is Linux based, it might be easier for them to keep up to date.

I think people might be awed if Palm released a new phone based on the new OS that comes with a good GPS, Wi-Fi, and is also compatible or has new versions of existing apps. Google maps for example might have all features working(which they don't for the vast majority of Treos. If a software based voice dial is available for it that works decently, that would also help, as well as something like Firefox or a Firefox based web browser, and things might look very interesting.

i find it very interesting. if im not mistaken palm's ceo ed colligan did mention something about palm os 2, the os of their next generation mobile phones in one of the shows hosted by microsoft. i just can't tell when it was nor confirm that show was it. that if my memory recollection serves me right.

Engadget posted a story claiming that Nova is getting pushed back even more!

I'd like to know just how many times they've trashed the prototype OS and started over again. I don't think they can decide who they want to compete with, WinMo, OSX, Symbian, Android, Limo...etc.

I bet they are just waiting to see what Android is all about in a few month and then start seriously working on Nova.

Yep as expected Engadget found something to negative to say about Palm even though they've been positive so far about the Treo Pro. Of course as Palm have never given a date for the release of a Nova based device it's not possible for it to be delayed

Yes, yes they did.

Time spans are not the same as giving an actual release date. Furthermore, they could complete the OS, but still have to build new model phones compatible with it. Although it sounds like they may just release one new Nova Model.

That's hardly a firm release date, and what does "early next year" mean, first month, first couple of months, first six months, it's a non specific unit of measurment It also has the word "expects" in it which suggests a date they are aiming for rather than a firm date.

The recent New York Times article states that the new OS will be out in the "first half of next year." That opens up a much longer timeframe than "early 2009." Looks like the wait will be a bit longer than anyone wants. I'm going to try to stick it out with my 680 until much more is known about Nova. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.
