![]() | Advice needed: Should I wait for the 855p? The mic part of my 650p's headphone/mic jack has stopped working, so it's time to start looking for a replacement since I prefer using my headsets for long conversations. All other aspects of my 650p are working just fine but I'm now down to my last 2-Mb of memory. Currently Verizon offers the 755p. But now there are discussions about a new 850. The Palm OS is my favorite [after Mac OS 10] but if it is no longer offered as a smartphone OS option then I'll very reluctantly dump Verizon and the Treo and go over to AT&T and the iPhone. Should I wait for an 855p and then wait further for Verizon to eventually offer it as one of their smartphones, or should I get the 755p now and get locked into Verizon for another 2 years? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The 755p is a great device, and there has been no talk of a new Palm OS device (other than the Centro) for Verizon. My personal thoughts are there won't be any new Palm OS devices until the release of the new Palm Linux OS. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As LotusLord has said there has been no word of a 855P or any other new PalmOS based devices. If you want a new PalmOS based phone in the near future then you're options are the 755P or Centro, assuming Verizon release it in the coming months.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Id say go for the 755p if PalmOS is your thing. Too bad the 755p isnt available as GSM or I would definitely upgrade my 650 to it. ![]()

![]() ![]() | Another option if you're not married to Verizon, and ATT is a viable alternative in your region, go with a GSM Treo 680. It's been a good upgrade for me from my 650. As others say or imply here, there isn't likely to be any Palm OS phone released GSM or CDMA for a year+ since the new Linux OS is Summer 09 release at best.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I didn't like the 680 that much. It wasn't a big enough improvement from the 650. Plus I wanted wifi. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From the Colligen interview article I read, it sounded like 1) Garnet Palm OS phones would be around a while longer, with the Centro being the primary phone, but 2) that other Garnet based phones would also be offered to consumers. So perhaps an 855p is in the offing. However, the Treo brand is switching totally to WM and will be top of the line from what I can gather from Colligen's comments, and the new Nova OS line will be in between the two. So the advice regarding switching to the 800 or 850 may not be such a bad idea, if you want top of the line. Of course, Colligen said alot, but his comments were as clear as mud, so perhaps it may be better to wait a year and see what comes out. Your choice! |
